Daniel Craig is James Bond
Daniel Craig has been officially announced as the next James Bond.
Yawn. I've lost all interest in Bond now. |

Why? Daniel Craig is a terrific actor, if you don;t include that Guy Ritchie film he did (forget the name).
See: "Enduring Love". The film I've bigged up most on the film board which no one has probably watched! It;s got Rhys Ifans in it too he's a laugh! |

This is good news, I can assure you.
Daniel Craig is a fine, fine actor - easily better than Pierce Brosnan. Out of the many choices that were thrown around, he's one of the best. Craig hasn't done any Ritchie films, Fraser. Unless you count Layer Cake...which he was really good in, I thought.

Layer Cake wasn't directed by Guy Ritchie. I believe it was done by one of his friends or partners or something.
I think it's an interesting choice and will add some spice to the whole thing.

Damn.
"Quentin Tarantino also expressed an interest in directing. He said at the Cannes film festival 2004 that he wanted to film "Casino Royale" properly - pretty much as Ian Fleming wrote it. He backed Pierce Brosnan for Bond and Uma Thurman as Bond Girl (presumably the tragic Vesper Lynd). He approached Eon Productions with his ideas, but they turned him down. Then, shortly thereafter, Eon announced the film would indeed be called "Casino Royale", but with Martin Campbell as the director, and with a new (not-yet-revealed) actor to portray the role of James Bond." |

Oh, for some reason I had Layer Cake as the 3rd Lock Stock in my head (I'm often confused, sorry).
he was alright in it, but I just thought the movie was shit, and the character he played was a bit of a bellend. and when the rival gang wanted 5million quid for 5million pills I was like shut up you can get em for less than a pound off the street ![]() anyway........I haven;t read Casino Royale, I hope it's a badass story and doesnt rely on SFX like some of the recent, shitty Bond movies. ASH: I know he doesnt look that dapper, but I think he can make the grade. |

Yeah, maybe my initial comments were a little harsh. Apparently this film's gonna have a whole new feel to it, and be much darker than previous Bond efforts. Bond will be younger, there will be fewer gadgets, and there will be no Moneypenny or Q.
And the director's from New Zealand! So it can't be all bad

I liked it in the old, old Bonds when he came across as what he would be in real life: A Cold Ruthless Killer. None of this machine gun battles (which nobody hardly ever gets hit in) and cheesy one liners. I wanna see Daniel Craig creeping up on Russian heavies and breaking their fucking necks with a head snap or a cool bullet from a silenced pistol through the head.

Not only that, but he did direct one of the better Bonds of recent times - Goldeneye.
And Beyond Borders. And Vertical Limit. But a-hey...can be forgiven, I guess. Craig is hopefully a sign that this Bond will be closer to Connery than anyone else. Still, from what I've heard, Casino Royale is a pretty tall order to adapt. And it's definitely a more character-based story...they did it once, of course - with good ol' David Niven, but that was played for laughs. Fraser: I liked Layer Cake, mainly for the performances. The plot was a bit too twisty (purely for the sake of being so), but having so many fine actors on screen helped - Daniel Craig, Colm Meaney, Michael Gambon, Jamie Foreman, Kenneth Cranham...you can't knock that back! Even Tamer Hassan and Dexter Fletcher were ok in it. Matthew Vaughn can direct actors for sure. Has an eye for a scene too...the 'Ordinary World' scene especially.

I think I like my British films to be Rawer (is that a word?) than Layer Cake. And Craig doesnt make the most believable gangster in the world, but that's just my fault for not letting go of his image like you should with all movies. Id watch it again though....I think I saw it at the cinema before my Unlimited Card days, so I was disappointed I'd just paid £6 to see it and I only thought it was "good" rather than "brilliant".

I had no idea until recent that Daniel Craig played Ted Hughes in Sylvia.
It was a crap movie and all, but he was pretty fuckin' good in that.

Hmm nah I think Bond is too different for Tarantino. He should stick to what he knows best, gangster (strictly american gangsters) films. Kill Bill was the only different one, but that whole film was like a homage to the genre, so it's not really in the same group as the first 4 or was it 3? I forget).

I have no clue who Daniel Craig is, but I saw his picture and that's good enough for me.
I like an intelligent Bond over an action-packed thriller Bond. I liked "Jaws" with his sexy silver teeth! |
