songs you wish Elliott could have covered
Not thinking of obvious choices (obvious would be something like Sunday Morning by Velvet Underground, though I have to say that Perfect Day by Uncle Lou, while probably even more obvious, would be pretty sweet).
Here's my pick: If You Could Read My Mind, by Gordon Lightfoot. Sad song, delicate fingerpicking (+awful, swelling strings which I could really do without). It used to be on the radio all the time when I was a kid. Johnny Cash did a pretty badass version, but Elliott might have made something much different out of it. Last edited by J. If I could have Elliott cover any Lou song, it would be a "dont fear the reaper" style funny choice. And the best choice I can think of for that is a tie between "I wanna be black" and "sex with your parents".... Your pick

"Song for my Father" by Horace Silver (which, of course, Steely Dan ripped off and called "Rikki Don't Lose That Number") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLdm1yuoU_Q

Me too! Especially "For the sake of the song", "Nothin" and "Waiting around to die". Townes' lyrics are so powerful and sincere.

Andy's Chest would also be cool. But for sheer Lou-style silliness, I'd like to suggest Coney Island Baby. To hear Elliott sing lines such as "I wanted to play football for the coach" would be even funnier than hearing Lou sing them.

Also, is there a way to edit a thread style? The typo irritates me.

This is about "Thumbsucker" :
The plan to score the film was revived, only this time the pair came up with the idea of recording a series of covers. "We didn't even know if we could possibly afford getting all the rights to the music," Mills said, noting that Smith had planned to cover Leonard Cohen's "Sisters of Mercy" and an unspecified Neil Young song. "But that was the goal. It was just a crazy idea, but Elliott was so into it."

Elliott singing any Neil Young song would have been too beautiful for words...
![]() And this is gonna sound really strange, but I remember Autumn saying that Elliott really liked Phil Collins' Against All Odds (a song I secretly love as well ) and I think he would have done a beautiful scaled down version that would surpass the original.

There's a file floating around with his cover of "I'll Be Back" mislabeled "If I Fell"... Every time I see it I'm really excited, then really let down. "If I Fell" is one of my favorite Beatles songs for some reason and I'd love to actually hear him cover it...

Mother Nature's Son by The Beatles
I know the Beatles is such an obvious kinda choice but for some reason whenever I hear this song I think of him.

Jane Says. I used to love Jane's Addiction back in the early nineties. They were my introduction to "alternative" music. In hindsight, they were really just an artsy-fartsy Gun's & Roses, but whatever.

There were a few songs on the last Minders album that I think Elliott would have really liked.
