oh yeah.. and this really cool band from the netherlands called The Bent Moustache
are touring with them... and they are really good! (although they had a lot of contempt for the DC audience last night... most people didn't start coming until before sebadoh came on... and anyway, they just didn't think the audience treated them very well... lou barlow hassled us about it!) |

Oh fucking hell! I'm praying SO damn hard for them to tour the UK. 'Sebadoh III' has been my favourite album ever since I bought it in 1992. Nothing comes close to the genius of that record.
I've seen them a few times before but not with the definitive line up of Jason, Eric and Lou. You are SO lucky Candypants! Did they just play stuff up until Bubble & Scrape or did they play post-Eric stuff too? I'm also praying for a new Sebadoh album. How amazing would that be! |

i swear they played a new song last night...
![]() and the only post-eric stuff they played was when they came back for an encore, they did a suite of songs (as lou barlow put it) from bakesale... it was awesome. they ended with 'gimme indie rock'... it was hilariously awesome!! eric said they learned like 60 songs for the tour and play about half every night... they played a long time. it was so awesome to see the instrument swapping... and what incredible drummers both jake and eric. those three had such amazing energy! so much fun! my ears are bleeding today... hehe and i hope for your sake they tour the UK... i could see it happening... most certainly! |

i NEVER got to see them back in the day... i was supposed to be at a show in '96 when elliott was opening for them... i got to see the sebadoh turbo acoustic tour a few years ago that lou and jake did... they were so goofy and adorable...lou said that they would eventually be taking it out on the road as a threesome... eric gaffney is amazing. what a joy to watch him play the drums... and the guitar... everything. and jake was incredible on the drums too. and i love seeing loobie play the bass. i wish it was tuesday night all over again! they didn't take a long time with alternate tunings actually. but they had several guitars they were using. after the show, i got a picture of them all lined up... heh ![]() lou had the lil baby looking acoustic guitar that he used to play... with only four strings! and one of the electric ones he played also only had 4 strings on it. (he was like, you only have four fingers you can play with!) and then towards the end he brought out another electric... which had 6 strings.. he said he was a man now... heh another thing that happened that is kinda funny is that this guy right in front of the stage complained to lou that he couldn't hear his vocals... so lou took the time to explain to him what a p.a. system is and how his ears were in front of them and that is why he couldn't hear them. also he explained how the monitors were facing in the opposite direction so he couldn't hear them that way either. but that he was welcome to come up on stage and sit in front of his monitor if he wished. and of course everyone encouraged him to do it. so he sat there for several songs. i was really close to the stage, but my ears were on the right side of the pa line... okay.. i'll shut up now! Thanks for that Candypants!
It really will be the highlight of my year if I get to see them live. Ahem, hate to say this, but I saw Elliott Smith support Sebadoh in 1999! It was part of an NME tour at the London Astoria. Line up: Quasi (w/Elliott on bass) > Hefner (hmmmm…), Elliott Smith (played Son of Sam way before Figure 8 came out - amazing!) and then Sebadoh, who threw lighters into the crowd to promote the 'Flame' single. Didn't get one personally but, thanks to ebay last year, my dream was fulfilled! Check out the NME link on this thread. Looks like most of their stuff is being reissued, hopefully with more b-sides and rarities. Although 'Bakesale', 'Harmacy' and 'The Sebadoh' are great albums, it's really the twisted madness of Eric, Jason and Lou that truly defined Sebadoh. I'm so thrilled that they have reunited as they were such an underrated band. I'm hoping so hard that they come to the UK and give me some indie rock! |

i hope they make it over there...
i'd be very surprised if they don't. and you're so right... the three of them defined sebadoh... surely. all of this reuniting gives me a small spark of hope that john davis will come out of hiding... bring on the real folk implosion...

And as for the truly awesome 'Kids' soundtrack… I'll have to dig out their other album's and EPs that I never really got into. And, then there's Lou's Sentridoh project… does he ever sleep? |

i love the album 'take a look inside the folk implosion'... and yeah... sentridoh... i love when he covered that bryan adams song 'run to you'... that is hilarious! oh... off topic from lou side projects... (although everything lou does is side project of a side project... hmmmm) i was just reading the liner notes to the reissued sebadoh III and jake mentioned how back in the day eric threatened to quit and start another band called sebadeth... that made me laugh... |

Sebadoh was great in Houston last night... We got two encores out of 'em... If yr anywhere near Austin you should check them out tonight.
My copy of Sebadoh III got stolen a while ago, so I picked up the III reissue and a tour-only CD with rare tracks. My favorite is the tour tape on the III bonus disc: "Music to give your girlfriend a hard time by... SEBADOH!!!" |
