Anyone know why I can run Doom 3 at 'ultra' settings, FEAR at 'high', Battlefield 2 and 2142 at 'high' settings, but for some goddamn reason my computer can't handle Call of Duty 2 on a Direct X 9 setting (I hafta downgrade to DX7). I get like 12 fps under DX9 on COD2.

I mean, what the fuck???

P.S. My rig - AMD Athlon 4000, Asus Geforce 7600 Silent 512mb, 2 gigs of Corsair XMS ram, Windows XP Pro 64

I mean this baby should be able to handle DX9 on COD2.

I'll start with the obvious thing you've probably tried:
update your vid card drivers.

Most likely it is a shader problem, although it seems like that wouldn't be it if you can run FEAR and BF2 on high. Dunno. I don't know much about Nvidia cards and I've never played CoD2.

Yeah its been about 4 months since I updated the drivers. I'll try that out. Whenever I SLI this baby I surely won't have a prob..I hope.

Don't SLI, just get a 8800.

the 7600 is defo a dx 9 card btw.

if nothing else set your graphics to custom and turn down the detail settings in this order

set specular to normal... if that doesn't help set normal mapping to high... if that doesn't help set textures to high... if it's still too slow set specular to low

if that still doesn't help... turn down/off antialiasing if you still need some framerate try the anisotropic filtering optimizations in the drivers

but your speeds are SLOW compared to what my lesser machine does...

AthlonXP 3000+
1GB PC2700 (yet mobo supports PC3200)
7800GS

i run 1600x1200 all settings maxed with 4xAA (with supersampling transparency AA) 6xAF (i could go as high as 16x and have it playable but i'll take still looks great with better framerate)

If I had the game I'd test stuff out for you, but our systems are pretty different.

Am2 X2 4200
2gb OCZ 800mhz ram
x1900t 512mb

I have the same problem with Oblivion, 'cause I have a rickety old GeForce 4 256 card that can't do DX9. :(

That's exactly what I thought while I was reading it, I'm really guilty of never updating drivers sometimes.

Could be a sound issue too. Try updating your soundcard/integrated sound drivers.

Is Stalker worth getting?

(Bear in mind that I'm a fan of both Oblivion and Fallout)

stalker is worth buying... but keep in mind itcan be a beast of a game to run with full dynamic lighting
