I am in love with Nigella in every conceivable way! Apart from being glamourous, sexy, cute, gorgeous and voluptuous, she just has so much passion for food and good ingredients and for making cooking easy. I love that everything she does just requires throwing a bunch of stuff in the oven or a blender, pretty much. I think she knows how to allow busy people to cook.

And oh my God she's beautiful!

Ok...your turn, I'm embarrassed now.

I made her Christmas cookie decorations (but just as cookies) with some improvisation and they were really noice.

I love Nigella too.

Pretty much all the celebrity chefs are pretty ace tho, by virtue of being a celebrity chef!

Nigella Lawson's show is like Benny Hill. It is so full of sexual innuendo. It is there more to serve male titilation than for any culinary purpose.

Actually, that depends on the person watching it. If men watch it purely for titillation, that's their problem. I personally watch it often and I don't think Nigella intentionally sells her body in a cheap way at all. She's merely a gorgeous woman with a powerful personality standing at a kitchen bench, and ER usually with kids, family and friends (whether actors or not) close at hand.
I watch it because actually, she is a chef, and her recipes do serve an obvious culinary purpose, being RECIPES

i think nigella is vile. i have to agree with danny, which is actually pretty rare. she tries to make everything fucking sexual and it's lame, desperate and cheap.

and just for the record, i believe that rachel is NOT a chef, i'm pretty sure she didn't go to culinary school. when it comes down to technicalities i think that you can't just declare yourself a "chef," you have to be trained.

calling rachael ray a chef is akin to calling a [illicit] drug dealer a pharmacist.

You're correct that she hasn't been trained as a chef, since according to Wikipedia:

"She later helped open Agata & Valentina, a New York City market. Moving back to upstate New York, Ray managed Mister Brown's Pub at The Sagamore, a famous hotel on Lake George. From there, she became a buyer and chef at Cowan & Lobel, a gourmet market in suburban Albany."

Her family also owned and managed several restaurants in NY and Massachusetts.

Still, i maintain that she a chef, even though she wasn't trained.
I think that she learned by picking up techniques, and from experience. As strange as it sounds, it's akin to being self-taught and working in the corresponding field.

She did a spot on one of her TV shows that highlighted celebrity restaurants, that one was taken at a pizzeria in chicago called Piece which is owned by Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick - billy showed up to make a "cameo" as it were.

It's really good pizza, and they brew their own beer which is DELICIOUS.

Wrong.

The intent of the show is not dependent on who watches it. It is an excuse for titilation disguised as a "cookery" show.

I'm surprised you are so fond of such sexist material. Interesting.

i really fail to see how posing for a cute picture makes a person any less serious.

i think some of you are failing to get her gig. she's not out to be the iron chef, she just appreciates good food and makes it accessible for average people. she's more of a next generation martha stewart than a celebrity chef. except much, much less crazy than martha. i hope.
she's not my favourite person, i generally like her but she can get incredibly annoying. point is, i don't think she's trying to be anything she's not, so don't make it out like she is.

James Martin. He has this kind of shyness that is very endearing. He's just a normal lad from oop North too. I like Heston Blumenthal as well, he has a lot of interesting things to say about food. Nigel Slater is another good one although he mainly writes now.

Well....maybe we watched wildly different episodes or something but I haven't got that from the show at all! She's usually just cooking for a dinner party or something...the way the show is edited seems very family oriented to me *shrug*
I think she's beautiful naturally, not because she's overtly trying to sell it...can you tell me what you mean when she "tries to make everything sexual"? Like, particular acts or phrases she may have used? I'm really not getting it. As far as I remember she talks about food and ingredients most of the time...

Oh man, no! My pictures are terrible, trust me. Ted took most of the structure-type pictures (of the ones posted, I'm pretty sure he took all of them, though we debate a few) and I took the people pictures. Anyway, of maybe 100 pictures, only about 10 come out ok, and even then - the color is always off, there's a sun spot, etc.

Anyway, Paula Deen is the lady on the show "Paula's Home Cooking". She makes really unhealthy food (drenched in butter, deep-fried, etc.). She seems like she'd be fun to eat dinner with, or have some tea or something with. Yeah, you have to wonder about a skinny cook. You're in Scotland?

ah!, well, i've liked all the pictures - the perspective (i feel vague and pretentious using that word, kind of, so be it), of those you've posted before that you'd said you took. have you ever messed around in a dark room? that's a whole other aspect that can be fun.

yeah! Home Cooking. she makes all the fatty comforting foods. she does seem fun. and i like the family gatherings/parties she has; i could see where it'd be fun to share a meal/tea with her.

yeah! i'm in Scotland. it's very fun. expensive though.

I hate Delia, I find her v patronising. I like Rick Stein but not his fodder (not keen on seafood), and I like Jamie Oliver's food (the fish pie is ACE) and respect his campaigning and that but I think he's a fat-tongued idiot and he really irks me, so I'm in a cleft stick rele.

right now I am in love with Rick Bayless. Fo' real. Maybe I'm just in a Mexican state of mind at the moment, but growing up with Greek food I've always always loved garlic, fresh vegetables, and unique ingredients and spices ...and Mexican food may have to be second only to Greek food in amazingness. He is very passionate about Mexican food and Mexican culture, loves how deeply intertwined they are, and it shows in his cookbooks. And he is big on making special occasions special with special food. It may take time to make mole or tamales or some of his recipes, but not having them everyday makes them more special and they taste better if you take the time to make them from scratch, get fresh ingredients, etc...

He owns three restaurants in Chicago, had a show on PBS, has been on Iron Chef, and put out TONS of cookbooks. Here is the one I just bought
http://www.amazon.com/Rick-Baylesss-Mexican-Kitchen-World-Class/dp/0684800063/sr=8-1/qid=1170865614/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-8784076-3959609?ie=UTF8&s=books

all though all the recipes in there seem hard and make me think "WHERE would I get the ingredients?" but I found simpler versions of some of the same dishes, I am going to work up to being a better cook and then try them. I have the cookbook as sort of an inspiration or something to work up to :D I want to learn how to make all the dishes in there eventually. I read the recipe and I can taste the Oaxacan black mole, with the chiles and the slightly burnt taste, and the little bit of chocolate and sugar! And his salsas, he has one for about every kind of chile. So yummy. He is an adventurous cook, I am an adventurous eater...I should learn how to cook like I want to eat so it's a good match for me.

Anyways about other chefs

Alton Brown - AWESOME. His show is entertaining, he seems like a great guy and a greaf chef.

Rachael Ray - I admit it, I think she's cute and I actually LIKE her perkiness and attitude. I like the food she cooks, never skimps on the spices, I could eat almost all of the food she cooks very happily.

Giada - I think she's annoying actually! All though drop dead gorgeous. I would gladly eat the food she makes though, it looks good.

Paula - again, I think watching her is annoying, but I love southern food and the food she cooks and I want to eat at her restaurant which isn't far from where I live. Henriette - you said you found out she's even cooler than she looks? How so? What did you find out? I think both Paula and Giada make great food I just don't like watching them.
