So what songs can't you get enough of at the moment?

For some reason I can't stop listening to Stevie Nicks' 'Stand Back'. I had never heard it until this week but am absolutely loving it at the moment. I just love the sound of her voice and the bubbling keyboard lines.

There is also a stonking live version of it on Youtube performed by Fleetwood Mac in 2003.

I only have Rumours, but I definately want to get more Mac/Nicks stuff!

lmao. a few years ago when me and Anya were in Barcelona they kept playing that video in Hard Rock Cafe. We must've seen it about 5 or 6 times within the couple of hours we were there. It's a really dodgy video but we kind of fell in love with it for it's crapness. I actually bought The Wildheart for £3 just to get that song, though I can't say it holds up well without the video. Watch the vid if you can find it.

There aren't any particular songs I find myself repeat listening to at the mo, though I'm not varying from about a core of 5 or so bands atm. These consist of Brian Jonestown Massacre, Japan/Sylvian/Karn stuff, Kraftwerk and various shoegazing stuff.

for some strange reason I know a lot of info about Stand Back ...

1) she wrote the song on her wedding day. Yes, she was married, for like...5 minutes. Her best friend (whom she knew from high school, before she got famous) died of cancer right after she had a baby ... the doctors warned her friend the pregnancy would probably kill her but her friend wanted to have the child anyways. So Stevie thought she was supposed to marry her best friends widower and raise the kid...for some reason Stevie felt it was the right thing to do. Then on her wedding day she realized she didn't love him, it was a mistake, and that both of them thought she could replace her friend for him and his kid and of course she couldn't, and that they could take the place of the friend for her and they couldn't, so here she is all alone on her wedding day in her confusion.

She said in an interview that once she and her ex-husband split up she never saw the little boy again. She knows the son is doing alive and well, but she said he had to come to her. And that she had all these pictures and videos of his mom to show him. She only stayed married for a very short time, so the boy wouldn't remember his time with her as he was just a baby, but she's sure he knows the story.

2) And another story is that Prince played the keyboards on the song. She had the demo and played it and then heard Little Red Corvette in the car right afterwords and had an idea that Prince would really rock the song up. She was so crazy and messed up at the time, she said she kept trying to get Prince to sleep with her and he wouldn't even though she thought there was some kind of attraction, but he just came in, played the keyboards cool as a cucumber, and left.

Did you like my stories?

Hey Anya!

Thanks for the heads up. I quite like the Fleetwood Mac I've heard, but don't really know what's the good stuff to get. I bought the Rumours album, and like about half the songs on it. I've heard Tusk is pretty good, so will check that one out next. I d/l a couple of songs from Tango In The Night. They were okay, not brilliant.

Did you ever get any Ultravox! when I was banging on about them?
If not then get "Hiroshima Mon Amour" "Slow Motion" and "My Sex". They're a good introduction to a once great band. Though actually it's Gary Numan's fault that Ultravox reformed with frickin' Midge, the same Gary who ripped off John Foxx's style and exploited it before John could make a bigger name for himself. :( sob.

make sure you don't get a Midge fake Ultravox album. Vienna was about the best song they did despite it being quite boring.

Haha, nice.

I forgot how crazy this album was, lyrics-wise.

"I take seven kids from Columbine and stand them all in line/ add an ak-47, a revolver, a nine/ a mac-11 and that ought to solve the problem of mine/ now that's a whole school of bullies shot up all at one time"

I always crack up on "Criminal," when he does the bank robbery and talks about waiting for 5 minutes and then returning to the crime scene to shoot everyone, "Die bitches, bastards, brats, pets...this puppy's lucky I didn't shoot his ass yet!"

And,

"Will Smith don't gotta cuss in his raps to sell records?/ Well, I do, so fuckhim and fuck you too!"
