70ies german singer songwriter who sounds like a combination of Nick Drake & Nico, the story is as follows:

In a particularly dark and moody period of her young life, Claudine, a friend of Sibylle's, dragged her out from under the bed and took her on a road trip to Strasbourg, ending up across the Alps in Genoa.

Upon the return from this trip Sibylle felt her sprits renewed and she set out to write the song "Remember the Day", grateful for being alive. It was the first song she ever wrote. Her music is simply amazing in its intimacy and closeness. Recorded in the late 70's in her home on a reel to reel recording device, the songs on "Colour Green" are intimate portraits of life's sad and fragile beauty. It is a gem of an album that will blow your mind. Sibylle is a star who chose to shine for her friends and family instead of the whole world.

From another website:

Sibylle Baier seems to have been an aspiring German folk singer and theatre actress in the early 1970’s, that gave up her dreams for fame for family. Years later her son transferred her music from an old tape reel to CD’s as presents for their family during an anniversary of her birthday. The son happened to be friends with J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. fame, who happened to hear the CD and passed it along promptly to Orange Twin records. “Colour Green” is an impressive display of dreamy folk music, that will make fans of Vashti Bunyan and Nick Drake drool with delight. It is that good. Her voice is similar to Nico except it is far more feminine and gives this reviewer the instant feeling of “listening to greatness.

my advice, grab this shit up, it beats the shit out of Vashti Bunyan

mine just came in the mail yesterday, took like 2 months...
i heard it online, and enjoyed it
but i listened to it all night at work and it's nutty good!
it strikes me as very genuine
like you're not being put on while listening to it
like certain singers or whatever sing these really earnest intimate 'gentle agony' songs and it's just like blech, spare me.
i was thinking about it all night, it was fun.
it's fun to finally be enthusiastic about something again...

Oh, I'm so glad to see people are into Sibylle!

A friend tipped me off to her a while back and I was going to recommend her ages ago, but decided against it, as I think sometimes my recommendations go over about as well as a fart in church.

Put it simply, she kind of reminds me of the Cat Power (circa Moon Pix) of her time. Fantastic album! Well worth picking up. For my money, I think it is better than Vashti. And I like Vashti!

She even has a song called "Says Elliott" - but I think it's about T.S.

well what is it called?? says "Elliott" or says "Eliot", cuz T.S is spelled with the one T, so if it is "says Elliott" then its probably about Smith.

Thanks for the weisenheimer response...

Seeing as it was recorded between 1970 and 1973, it's not likely about Elliott Smith. I just added that as a funny tie-in to this here internet superhighway site.

The lyrics in the song actually quote from the Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock, so I'm gonna have to go with T.S. on this one. It's listed as two l's and two t's in the liner notes. I'm aware his name was spelled differently, but I guess we'll have to chalk that up to a typographical error.
