i'm spending a ridiculous amount of money today getting extensions put in.
my hair just does not grow past where it touces my shoulders naturally, cuz it's so fine, sooo i'm turning to artificial methods. i've had short hair for five years, i'm tired of it!
i'm adding 22" :D
have any of you laydeez ever gotten extensions, and how'd it go?

I always thought they looked weird and itchy. My mom has the same problem with her hair not growing. I can grow my hair down to my ass so I'll probably never try extensions. :\

i'm getting them done at this place that apparently uses sme method no one else uses, and in the end you just can't differentiate between your own hair and the other hair.
the hair that is being used is great quality, too :D it's all black and silky and perfect. i'll take a couple pictures after it is over.
& kendra yeah my hair absolutely refuses to go, i've left it alone without trimming it at all for 8 months and it barely even touched my shoulders.

i havent ever had them but i've had friends who have and they've always looked fine. except this one friend. man, hers looked shitty. anyway, i've always sorta wanted to try them because i want long hair but my hair is so thick that it looks bad when i grow it out. aaaaaaanyway.. um. good luck! :) post pics.

I'm the opposite; always had long hair so I'm having fun gradually cutting it shorter and shorter.

:D i did it and i LOVE it!!
it didn't hurt at all, it's not uncomfortable at all, my hairdresser is this amazing awesome woman from amsterdam and she accidentally knocked into paris hilton at a bar last night and we spent a while bemoaning the fact that she didn't knock into her a little harder.
oh but the hair, yeah it was expensive but most definitely worth it...i look like a different person, i barely recognise myself. i'll post pis in the pic thread later tonight :]

how long do they last? do you wash/brush your hair the same way etc? can you take them out and put them back in whenever/forever>? :o

I don't want to be a bitch, but I can't help it. Um...how can hair stop growing?? It's my belief that if you do not cut hair, it will grow to the ground and beyond, no matter what type you have.
Nah, my friend Joe didn't cut his hair for over a year and it didn't get any longer. Look at general body hair, that has a maximum length, you don't get people whose pubes are coming out of their trouser legs...
edit: Acording to Wikipedia it's because after a hair has grown for a certain length of time, a new hair pushes the old one out of the follicle.

yeah. plus if it's really fine it probably breaks more often than thicker hair.

they'll last about 3 months or so.
i can't wash my hair as often, so that my natural oils or whatever can reach the extensions and keep them from becoming dry, and i brush a bit more carefuly now to keep them from being damaged. i'm actually probably gonna have to invest in a comb.
and nah you can't take em out and put em back in, once they'r out, they're out.

I don't get it. Everyone I know has hair that grows. I'm sure *****'s arm hair doesn't get as long as her head hair, of course my husband says his beard won't grow past a certain point, but he also shaves it off when it gets long.
But even hair that breaks off is still growing and would be long, if it didn't break off. Great, now I'm going to have to search for a correct answer.

Well look at most black people; their hair is so brittle it won't grow very long, and it also grows very slowly. Some people's hair just won't grow long.
