My friend got one. He says its "really fuckin fun" espically the wii sports boxing, more fun than Fight Night Round 3. I keep asking to borrow it but unfortunatly for me hes not a good friend....or one that lets me have their stuff the 1st day they get it. Oh well.

I have a paycheck coming up that includes what was supposed to be my last paycheck (turned in the timesheet late), so I'm thinking about buying the Wii when I get it. The only dilemma I have is picking out the right accessories to go with it.
Must buy:
Wii - $250
Zelda - $50
Highly needed:
2nd Controller - $60
3rd Controller - $60
Stuff I want:
2000 Wii points - $25
Madden '06 - $45
NFS Carbon - $50
I really think I might go with the Wii, Zelda, and a second controller if I can afford it all in one shot. That would be about $390, tax included. I'm pretty sure my friend is going to get the Wii as well, so I doubt I'll need 4 controllers because he could just bring his over. Can I just say how awesome the Smash Bros. game is looking? Kid fucking Icarus & Solid Snake. Orgasmic.

BTW, Mr. jas1n, the only place I found the Wii at was Toys R' Us. They had quite a few Wiis & PS3s. Although, I should say that I only saw the boxes out, so whether they had them in stock is a different matter.

i got mine at wal*mart. they had 30 come in (the only store in the area that got more than nine) and it was like the second half of their intial shipment.
people were told to come around 12 to start lining up and then they would start selling them at 8am. i checked the line at 8pm and there were two people in line, so i got in third. i hung out in a dirty fucking lawn and garden dept where they had us waiting for twelve hours. probably the dumbest thing i've ever done. :D oh well, it was fucking worth it. lots of rockstar, bananas, and cheese n' crackers makes it easier. also music to listen to and plenty of portable video games.

I HATE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I can't stay mad at you. You might let me touch it. The Wii, I mean. And by Wii, I mean the game console.
Yeah, so I finally have the spare cash, and every place I've called doesn't have it in. No big surprise. They're probably all sick of getting these phone calls from Nintendorks.
I'll have to wait until next xmas, I can't get a console in the middle of the year, that'd be unnatural. Plus, I'll need lots of spare time.

it pays to have friends in retail, also a lot of stores will list in their ads what mornings they will be selling them. i used to check Wii tracking websites for online retailers, sometimes that will actually work.
Hi There, Am Pam
12-08-2006, 02:39 PM
Well, I checked PS3Seeker.com/wii and they estimate, at the earliest, that the next shipment will be December 10th at Target. However, when I called, they not only said they were out, but that they may not be getting any more for the year. Everywhere else is Dec. 17th...
I must have called every Gamestop/EB Games/Cracklandvideo games within a 30 mile radius. It's so funny because every single time it's:
"HellowelcometoGamestopwherewebuyandsellusedgames, how may I help you?" They must absolutely hate saying that, and I feel bad for them because they sound like robots.
But I feel even worse for myself BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND A WII. I thought it was going to be easy when I saw the boxes at Toys R' Us, but Jason confirmed my suspicions that they were just boxes. Well, that and I called them. Ratbastards.

no you can't, but it does have four gamecube ports and two gamecube memory card slots.
i've been hearing a lot about plugs that convert old controllers to the gamecube plug... so it may be possible that way.
there's a classic controller that you can get for 20 bucks that plugs into the end of the Wii remote and it kind of resembles a SNES controller. i probably won't worry about getting one until there are some games available for Virtual Console that i actually wanna get.

 i think it's pretty rad and the waiting was worth it. the only thing that concerns me about it is that a lot of games require a certain amount of room around you to get the full effect. i may be playing Wii only in my living room until i eventually move into a bigger place. :\

I've only played Wii Sports and Zelda, but there was hardly any learning curve to speak of at all. Works like a charm. I wouldn't at all be surprised if this type of controller became the standard for future console generations.

I've heard about that too. I think I saw one for sale (in January) that was to cost $20 per adapter. Pretty expensive if you were to want 2 of each kind (NES & SNES are sold separately). I'd imagine once competition kicks in, it wouldn't be so bad. The very idea of being able to play with the NES controller on a system that doesn't require duct tape & tin foil is kick ass.

That's ass!
I think I figured out a work around for this Wii dilemma. I've duct taped a Monster energy drink around my Gamecube, and I took my universal remote & duct taped an NES controller to it. I mean, it's a universal remote, so it's supposed to work with everything, right? Somehow, I've manged to get to level 4 on the original Metriod, which is weird cause Metriod doesn't have levels.

When you play Wii sports you can play as yourself, and other Miis you have on your console turn up in the crowd. Putting them on a controller lets you take your controller to someone's house and still be able to play as yerself. It sounds quite fun but it really wouldn't sway me into buying one, pretty much the only reason I want one is Zelda at the moment. I'm sure the new Mario game will be awesome. And the Metroid one, but I still haven't played any 3D Metroids, I just bought the first one second hand though so I'll play that once I've beaten Oracle of Ages.
stevenrwolfe

I'd recommend renting Red Steel before you buy it. Some people love it, others hate it. Honestly, the reviews are all over the place, from a 6.0 to 8.5. Test it and decide for yourself.
Right now, you can only use Mii's in Wii Sports, or send them to your friends' consoles. Hopefully, future developers will design games that allow you to implement your own Mii in their game.
Metroid 3: Corruption will probably be out in May 07. Mario will follow in the Winter.

Warioware is okay, seems like it'll be more fun in a bigger group, it's crazy and jappy, but well made.
Red Steel didn't quite do it for me, i like the controls sorta but i'm so bad at FPS that it wasn't much fun for me. plus it kinda looked like an early ps2 game.
rampage is alright. it's the cheapest game out for the wii but it's not all that impressive, especially if you're like me and kinda burned out on the rampage thing, but if you haven't played one of these games in years it'd be a good purchase.

An odd fact about the availability of Wii's at EB Games.
A friend of mine works at the EB Games at the Eaton's Centre in Toronto. They get 15 Wii's in a week... compared to their counterparts in Buffalo, NY which get 3 a week. Not sure how that works, considering there are less stores in the Buffalo area to provide for the population of gamers than in the Toronto area. Perhaps it's the population difference?
