How exactly the hell did Justin Morneau win the MVP? The guy was at best the third most valuable player on his own TEAM, let alone in the league. Pujols deserved it in the NL, but at least one could make a real argument for Howard. But THIS? Sportswriters are such fucking morons.
Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Joe Mauer, Manny Ramirez, Jermaine Dye, etc., etc., got robbed.

FPCT .994
BA .321
OBP .375 (yeah, a little low)
SLG .559
Oh, and 130 RBI is probably what won it for him. Not to mention 34 HR which is maybe avg for a 1B.
I really thought this was Jeter's year. If one other player should have won it it should have been him. Papi didn't make the playoffs and his team tanked so he was eliminated for those reasons. Same with Manny.
The reason Howard got it is because he was THE reason anyone was even talking about the Phils in the 2nd half. Not to mention the fact that Pujols was worthless during the last couple weeks of the season which is when the voting takes place.

Fielding percentage is a completely useless, completely meaningless statistic.
Batting average means relatively little.
His OBP is blah.
His SLG is not exceptional for a first baseman.
RBIs aren't useful.
Paul Konerko was just as good this year.
This year was the first and only where Jeter played up to his media's rimjobs.

Yes, his second half was the argument for Howard. Or rather, his mid-June on. However, Pujols was a better bat overall, and is the best defensive first baseman in the majors. I would also have been fine with Beltran getting it.
Howard's worthy of his award, though. Morneau is the biggest MVP joke since Andre Dawson. Or, really, biggest award joke since Palmeiro's Gold Glove.

I agree Jeter was most deserving. I don't think Morneau was a bad choice, though. I wonder if A-Rod winning it last year hurt Jeter in some way. There should be some other elements to the MVP voting other than just human polls. Computers should definitely have a say in the numbers part at least.

Well, the problem is sportswriters, of course. They're generally pretty fucking dumb.

ESPN's about to talk about it. I'm dying to see what they have to say because they're talking about how Morneau was not deserving.

If you want to hear something really bad: One of the writers voted Jeter 6th! on his ballot.
