View Full Version : Would you get plastic surgery?

I can't remember if there's been a thread about this.
The only thing I'd ever consider getting done is something to remove the bit of cellulite on the back of my thighs/bum because no amount of diet or excercise will ever get rid of it for me. I still had some when I was 30 pounds underweight. And maybe a facelift or something when I'm 60. I don't want anything else.
You?

No, but Al Copeland (the founder of Popeyes Chicken) has pec and ass implants along with face lifts.

I need my piehole wired shut.
when i look at myself i can think of a million things id want done, but i know its cause ive wasted far too many late night hours watching 'extreme makeover' and other things that show us how we should look in order to be happy.
like i hate the bridge of my nose but id never get that done, they have to SMASH the bone literally, to fix it. awful.
and the sickest one i heard of was having ribs removed so as to have a tiny waist, i dont comprehend how this is even possible but i have a short waist so it sounded cool for like a second.
and cheek fat removal, cause i have the same chipmonk cheeks i had when i was 2 yrs old and im tired of looking like a little kid.
anything to do with weight is stupid cause lipo does come back in other areas, and it just looks a lot better when you tone up yourself. but for areas like the upper arm that cant really respond to weight loss, i think that might be cool if i were really desperate, and i hate that area so maybe one day.
and i would hate to have saggy boobs so sometimes i contemplate the lift surgery things but i figure if i never have babys it shouldnt become a problem...
and celulite procedures are usually on the surface, they dont have to cut you open so that doesnt even really count, if youve got money to blow, stuff like that and perminant hair removal and stuff is totally cool.
that said i wont even go in for surgery if i NEED it, cause im so freaked out about being cut in my sleep, so the chances of me getting anything invasive ever done = .0001 %
and this post proves i am an idiot who needs to stop looking at tv/movies/magazines forever.

My jaw has been really acting up terribly recently. I'm hoping it's just that my wisdom teeth need to be removed and afterwards they go back to normal.
I've had my arm measurements change by 2 inches over the course of 26 pounds, so that area does indeed respond to weightloss in my experience.

I totally would if I had the money.. I want a nose job, a brow lift, and a boob job. I like myself a lot, I just think I'd be prettier if I had all that done.

No! It hurts! I'd get my teeth done if it was free, didn't hurt, and didn't compromise perfectly healthy teeth, but it does, so teeth Anglais for me 4lyf.

I was going to have my teeth whitened but my dentist said there was no point cos I smoke. :O I thought that was a large reason why people would have/want to have their teeth whitened!? I'll probably get it done at some point.. when I have a spare £600. :( I guess otherwise I could get it done cheapo-style in Europa.
I kind of wanted a nose job when I was younger, but I think I've 'grown into' my nose so to speak. How about that stuff you take to harden the cartilage in your knees etc. It could make you a whole inch or so taller! Sounds rank so no, but I would gladly accept another 2-3 inches in height.

i'd like a nose job to get the bump in my nose ironed out. and teeth-whitening. i'm happy enough with everything else.

I probably will get my teeth whitened when I give up smoking, it's the straightening I'm too scared of/too poor for. You can take stuff to make you taller? I wouldn't say no to being slightly taller, but not if it hurts or makes you look funny.

nosejobs make me sad! i love a good interesting nose. though i do need my damn septum fixed, again. i had it fixed years ago, then my sister smacked me in the face by accident and messed it up again. now i can only breathe through it in my sleep if i lay on my right side.

Only if I needed reconstructive surgery for some reason. Just to change my face/weight/boob size because I'm insecure, hell fucking no. All this surgical enhancement can't be good for you... I wonder if we'll see some really weird, new diseases or infections coming out in the next few decades because of the overabundance of bad plastic surgery! :O Girls wanting breast implants -- remember the stories of the leaky ones when they first became popular, or the ones that drifted and ended up in totally the wrong place... and just stuff yer bra if you're really that worried about inadequate boobage :D
also, I couldn't really consider teeth whitening as plastic surgery... being as there's nothing plastic or surgical involved with it, and you can buy the strips or the gel to do it yourself at wal-mart

I'm generally against plastic surgery, or at least the surgeries which have a high chance of making a person look worse. Obviously, reconstructive surgery is a whole other matter. Most of the time I find boob jobs to look too fake. Nice, natural small breasts are under-rated.
Think of it this way; which is better, Tara Reid pre or post surgery? Yeah, I know, it's Tara Reid, so either way you have to buy her drinks just to shut her up. But she was fine before, awful afterwards.
As much as I'd want to change some things about my body, I can't think of anything surgery could do. Does that make me beyond hope?

Some of my great parts have failed already, but I wouldn't have surgery. There's too much that goes wrong to keep up. We get old, get ugly and die, fine by me.
I've done two lingerie/sexy photo shoots with a photographer friend of mine, and now I regret not doing nudes. We did one of me nude lying on wet leaves, but it didn't come out.

please, i love Us Weekly!
yes i know, i'd never really get them and my lips are fine, i just want lips that take up my whole face for a day ;(
also, i'd love teeth whitening but it ruins your enamel and my teeth are weak in the first place so that's a no go. I did use Crest Strips though and they worked pretty well considering the price but they also made my teeth hurt.

You can only buy really weak bleach here, something to do with dentists giving a toss about people's teeth, or something. But they say that laser whitening is pretty harmless (not to the wallet though, gosh).

Plastic surgery usually looks fake, so overall I say no, I'd never get it. I think I'm attractive enough so I don't actively worry about this kind of stuff. However, a girl can fantasize about what she'd like to "fix":
- lipo for my saddlebags / butt / inner thighs
- make my nose symmetrical / straight. and shit, i'm sure there's tons of stuff a rhinoplasty doc would have to say about my nose. including my "dropped columella" (well, my nose tip doesn't point downward, but that's the technical term for having nostrils that you can see into easily ;o)
That's really about it. Does hair removal and mole removal count? Cos I could use a total body workover there :D

I agree with Kendra on the whole not getting it thing but:
-Lipo for my thighs/upper arms/stomach
-Cellulite removal

I can say that I am okay with myself. Of course there are things about myself that make me feel insecure but not insecure enough to go under a knife. Fuck that shit! Question: Do you have to go through therapy to get plastic surgery?

I like that procedure where they lace up the muscles in your neck like a corset, so you don't have creepy Monica Quartermaine neck. *shudder* I might consider that one day.
I'm probably definitely going to get a breast reduction/lift. Maybe tummy tuck, too. Then again maybe not. :darn:
i'd get an abdominoplasty but i don't like the fact that you get this HUGE scar. poop. and rhinoplasty (mainly to create a more defined bridge)
that's it i swear

I wouldn't ever consider invasive surgery to conform to social expectations or to deal with insecurity - I don't even believe it IS a panacea for insecurity, because wouldn't you always know that you basically cheated to become thin or have a younger face? There's no genuine achievement in it.
I think the only time I'd get it was if I became horribly disfigured in an accident or something. In that case it's more like redressing something terribly unfair that happened to disturb your natural self. Its an attempt to return to who you were, rather than trying to be someone else.
I wouldn't count teeth whitening as cosmetic surgery either, its not invasive. I keep meaning to perhaps get that stuff from the supermarket to whiten them after all my coffees and red wine but it cost 30 bucks so...never get around to it.

I was just watching a show on E! on the topic of botched surgeries. There was a lady who had a breast augmentation, and the doctor fucked up twice. The aerolias were all off, and... uhhh... eventually... the nipple.... ummm... rotted off.
I think E! says a lot about our culture. They have that show on which attempts to make a statement about plastic surgery, but then they have an ultra hot interviewer as the host, and have commercials for "Dr. 90210" during the breaks.
There is a strong segment of our culture which is just utterly vapid and devoid of any real appreciation of life. Really the problem is marketing, which attempts to dig into people's insecurities and create the idea in people that there is something wrong with them so that they can sell them the cure for a problem they never had. Of course, once people start to try to solve that "problem", the sense of temporary relief only starts to feed the original insecurity.

it isnt always that drastic. It isnt always "insecurites". Some people would just prefer it if things were a bit different. Very secure people have plastic surgery and love it.

For real, I always found it really weird how they had a skinny made up blonde girl as the host, and then a completely boring looking guy. I've noticed it a lot in commercials too. They'll have a lot of couples where the girl is pretty and thin and the guy normal and not very attractive. I don't get it!
Hi There, Am Pam

Well, I'm talking about the type of plastic surgery which carries heavy risks. Rhinoplasty, for example, is fairly routine, and in many cases, serves a purpose beyond aesthetics. The risks are generally low, as long as the person goes to a qualified doctor.
I'm speaking more about the types of surgery which can leave a person worse off than before the surgery. There is always some inherent risks with surgery, but... well, look at Tara Reid. There was absolutely no reason why she needed any of the surgery she had, and now she looks somewhat deformed.
I don't mean to put down all reconstructive/plastic/augmentative surgery. Notice I said "a segment". I do think that any plastic surgery done for cosmetic reasons should probably only be done if there is a very minimal risk in the procedure, but I also think people should do what they want with their bodies. If a person feels it's worth the risk, so be it. It just seems rather foolish.
