Lorraine Kelly has just interviewed a 12-year-old girl from Texas and her COSMETIC SURGEON (:() about her liposuction.

The child said "The other kids used to be mean and call me Big Brooke but they like me now!"

Lesson "learnt"! This depresses me beyond belief. Discuss.

i read about that. :( it's so sad.
i think the saddest part about the whole story is that from now on she's gonna think that unless she looks like everyone else no one is gonna like her. although at least she won't go goth in high school.

12 years old?! laaaaaaame. she'll probably gain that fat back anyway.

edit: unless she does the obvious (change diet/exercise). or develop an eating disorder.

What the hell. What surgeon in their right mind would do such a procedure on a child. What parent would let their child do this? Shit, eating healthy and excercise is NOT THAT HARD.

i read about this also. it's completely ridiculous on so many levels. lipo is NOT for weight loss!! it's for people of a normal weight who have areas resistant to diet and exercise. any fucking surgeon who would perform it for weight loss shouldn't be cutting people up- let alone one who would do it on a kid. i have no doubt she'll gain it back- unless permanent changes are made that's what happens, and considering she's a child who had such a quick fix, how could she possibly comprehend that? what's supersad also is that the surgeon justifies what he did by saying her dad was dying of cancer, and he wanted to grant her wish of "looking pretty in a dress for her dad." FUCK. :wall:

I feel like a kid who just found out there is no Santa Claus.

I didn't know that! That just makes it a million times worse, like she'd be worthless to her dad unless she was a certain way? For fack's sake!

well according to the article *he* never said anything like that, but that's how the girl felt. but the whole concept, and the fucking "surgeon" buying into that, is sick.

I'm not anymore, but yes heh. Almost as much as the fuckheads who would call NutriSystem and be like "my 5 year old daughter's getting fat, can she be on the program?" and when they're told no, and explained why it's not good, they just go "well fine, i'll sign myself up and just have her follow it! -click-" psychologically, putting a child on a "special" program is pretty much the worst thing a parent can do. they feel different and out of place enough, how is bringing their little nutrisystem lunch to school going to help?? it's not healthy either, as children cannot cut calories as drastically as adults since they're still growing rapidly. the best way to deal with a child's weight is to get them to play outside and be active rather than sitting on the computer ( :darn: ) and to get the whole family to eat better and cook healthy meals.
it bothers me on a personal level too, since i have my own weight issues. who doesn't have thoughts of "UGH CAN'T THEY JUST SUCK IT ALL OUT?!" but most people know that's not the rational answer.

You worked for NutriSystem? I've heard a lot about it. It seemed like a pretty good system because you don't have to count and whatnot.

Kids should never go on diets! Yeah, they should cut down on junk if they're eating way too much, and increase excercise. But sometimes kids just hold on to a bit of puppy fat and then shed it as they grow older, and there's nothing wrong about it. I remember I had a bit of fat around my tummy when I was 12 or 13 and was so self-conscious about it and stopped eating breakfast etc (the very start of my fucked up relationship with food I guess), but I ended up growing 5 inches that year or something else ridiculous. My body was just storing up some extra energy so I could grow.
