I don't know if any of you went to the T&G 25th Aniversary show, but I did. Quasi was really really amazing. They were incredible, and I was in the front row. On the official site, they said that in a review done for the show, only one paragraph was dedicated to them:
Fawned over because of drummer Janet Weiss, who until recently split time with Sleater-Kinney, the real impresario is her ex-husband/Elliott Smith's Heatmiser bandmate Sam Coomes. Not so much a performer as someone who must think "Im the guy on stage now," Quasi's set was easily the weekend's worst and merely an excuse for Coomes to bang tunelessly on his keyboard. Obnoxiously louder than just about every other band that played, it wasnt until he came forward with a guitar & "7 years gone" that his inclusion began to make the least bit of sense.
Is anyone else outraged by this?
sounds like sam was.

It makes me really sad, because I have no way of letting him know that there are still many of us who love them. It's funny, because my friend and I thought they were the BEST show of the weekend.
Yeah, I just wandered over the theequasi.com for the first time in a while and was surprised (and a bit saddened) to see an angry tirade about the state of Quasi from Sam that nearly matches his angry tirades about the war in Iraq.
I personally haven't really gotten into the latest record as much as I would like to. It wanders a bit off toward the noisy jam aspect of the band and away from the experimental pop. But I'd hate to see them throw in the towel. Quasi was the band that made me start listening to music again after I'd gotten tired of it.

The new album takes some getting used to but, once you're used to it, it really is amazing. Even the messy parts are artfully done. Take the title track, when you hear Janet's crystal clear voice soaring over the mess below...it's beautiful!
I agree about their set---it was the best I saw at the festival. I actually went out just to see them. Simply hearing "All the Same" made it a stand-out performance. Also, seeing them perform live really altered how I listened to the new album; it made me appreciate it a lot more. In fact, their live sets are always able to positively influence how I listen to their recordings. In a festival like that it's harder to connect with the audience, but they should at least know that they were able to with those who unfortunatley didn't pen the reviews.

i think the new album is awesome. with a band like quasi it doesnt matter what they do or how they do it, its always gonna rock and its always gonna speak to you, and thats what really counts in the long run, you just need to listen to it enough so you find the gems. i cant wait for the next .........

I haven't heard any Quasi news for a long time. I hope that doesn't have to do with that review on the T&G show. The front page of theeQuasi is sort of worrying me.
