HAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaH HA.
Here's a choice quote from the guardian fiver today:
QUOTE OF THE DAY
"There have been too many refereeing mistakes against us in the last 10 days. They can't be accidental" - Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti just can't understand why his side aren't getting the decisions they were last season.

Agger has been fantastic this season, which is just as well because Hyypia is not getting any younger. Paletta still has a bit to learn, but he is exceptionally talented and comes from that long assembly line of Argentine rock-solid defenders. Our squad has never looked as good. I'm glad a back line with the ages of 19,20,21 and 24 kept a clean sheet too. I was impressed by Peltier too, especially considering he usually plays in midfield. Good mix of foreign investment and scouse talent coming through. Obviously the only down point was Momo's injury and now he is out for 3 months, but hey, you have to keep going.
I think people kinda forget how young a lot of the Liverpool team is. I find it surprising myself sometimes when you consider that Sissoko is 21, Riise has only just turned 26, so has Gerrard, Pennant 23, Crouch 25, Alonso 24, Reina 24 etc etc.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when my bro told me Reina was only 24, haha, he looks about 40. The team has all the right ingredients now, away form really needs to be improved though.
In other news, I can't believe Byrne is out for the rest of the season, load of shite. The Dons are a fairly young team as well, now that I think of it. Smith, Miller, Diamond, Foster, Considine are all under 25 I think and Chris Maguire is younger than me and looks like a good prospect.

I would much rather have an excellent keeper with premature balding than a shit one with a load of hair! Our away form hasnt been too bad. We were the better team in all but the United game, and even in that one we started off the better and should have taken advantage. Our away fixtures have been quite relentless. Having consecutive away fixtures of Everton, Chelsea, Bolton, United and now the Arse (basically 5 of the top 6) is always going to be tough, but at least we have them out of the way when they play each other. We will have the easier run-in.
A good fightback from the Dons against the draw machine that is Caley, you really should beat Motherwell on Sat.

We seem to specialising in late goals at the moment! Lovell's wasn't a classic like Severin's against Hibs the other week, but it's good to see him score after being out. This was courtesy of an assist from the rapidly developing Maguire too.
They should beat Motherwell. It would be a great result. A top 4 finish is definitely a reality, what with Hibs and Hearts being shadows of their former selves.

Yeah that was a great win over Hibs. It seems like everyone is determined to hand the title to Celtic on a plate, what with silly late own goals, Rangers being a joke and the now seemingly annual Hearts implosion.

I think you mean bi-weekly Hearts implosion! Better Celtic than Rangers, I'd say.
Barca had an entertaining draw with Sorta-Super Depor last weekend. Really entertaining, and the result wasn't so bad, considering Depor's incredible home form. Los Ches and the Italiano-Style Galacticuntos also fucked up, thankfully. Sevilla are a great team, but I don't think they have to squad to take it all the way. I figure they will get a top 4 finish unless Real and Valencia slip up. Athletico Madrid are looking good at the moment too, but I have a feeling they'll make things difficult for themselves somehow, such is tradition.

I just remember it was about this time last year when the whole Hearts/George Burley thing kicked off after they made an excellent start.
I saw the Barca game, i had it backed for a draw. Depor are starting to make the Riazor into the fortress it used be a few years back, their away form is dodgy though. I have quite disappointed with Atletico, they really havent been getting the results. Valencia have hit a rotten patch too. As for Madrid,   Oh dear!

Heh heh, yeah! We didnt have that luxury. Loads of chances and barely getting close. We got unlucky with the first goal and it got to them, leading to two more soft goals. Same old story, twice as many chances but getting nowhere near.
We have had something like 100 chances in 6 away games this season and yet only scored one through a pen. There was only the scum game where we were not the better team. They were shit, we were worse, although we started off brightly and should have been ahead. Well thats the toughies out of the way by mid-Nov and it is a comparative cakewalk from here. We should still finsh third cos the Arse are nothing special and with the scums paper-thin squad, I can see them dropping, so 2nd is not impossible. But to catch Chelsea now? Thats gonna be very tough.

Surprisingly little discussion of another weak capitulation from Liverpool at the weekend. I'd usually take a lot of joy from it, but with Reina, Hyppia and Gerrard in my fantasy team I've got mixed feelings. Gerrard's looking inferior to Lampard at the moment, and I never thought I'd say that.

A weak capitulation is correct to a certain degree. Fragile confidence is more accurate. A game they should have won, and another flattering result for the opposition.
Gerrard has been having a very poor season, but it is hardly surprising considering he has playing almost constantly since the the summer of 03. Thats vitually 3 and half consecutive years without a break. No wonder he is shattered. I really hope (and its not going to happen) that Benitez lets him go on a holiday till the new year. He would come back so much better.

Kuyt looked really good again. Fabregas really dominated the midfield though - Zenden really is no replacement for Sissoko. Gonzalez has yet to impress either really - looks OK in Europe, but he offered precious little on Sunday.
As for Gerrard, he clearly does need a break. Last season he looked capable of changing games when things weren't going Liverpool's way, but he's just been on the fringes of games too often this year. I can't see Benitez giving him a break though - with the team not performing all that well, with Sissoko out injured, with the new signings not yet coming up with the goods, it would be far too risky to leave out the captain for a prolonged spell. I agree it would probably be beneficial in the long run, but I don't think Benitez can risk losing much more ground in the Premiership.

The Castle Greyskull game game was the only one we really deserved to lose this season. The worst of two poor teams on the day.
Kuyt looks a brilliant signing. Zenden was always, and will always be shit. Gonzalez is still a kid who will need a LOT of settling in.
We havent been playing badly, but we have lacked a certain solidity. As for Gerrard, I think at the moment, we will lose more ground in the Prem with him IN the side rather than out. The last thing he needs is a pointless England trip to Amsterdam.

About Liverpool - they seem to start slow and finish strong. Perhaps with the extra money coming in they'll be able to invest in some more quality players, hopefully not Samuel Eto'o - keep your hands off him Rafa! At the moment I think they are an unfinished product, much like Arsenal. I fully expect them to mount more of a challenge next season.

I hope we dont sign anyone in the summer. The reason we start slow is because there are so many new faces needing to settle in to the Prem. Our squad is pretty much spot on right now.
You really think our team is that good? I think at the moment there's a chronic shortage of creativity, especially when Alonso isn't in the side. If we had Luis Garcia and Kewell fit then the problem wouldn't be so pronounced, but we badly need better wingers. How I would love us to sign someone like Quaresma.
I still think we're a couple of players short of a title winning side. GK is fine, although there are probably better ones available around Europe. Dudek will be gone and we'll get to see what this Padelli guy is actually like next season.
Left back is a problem, Aurelio showed his real class against Arsenal but the guy is terribly injury prone, and always has been long before he joined Liverpool. Despite the odd spectacular goal from Riise, he remains a very average player, and he's been piss poor for the most part this season. Get rid I say, could prolly get a few bob for him too.
Centre back is fine, as is right back.
Our central midfield is quite simply one of the best, if not the best in Europe. Sissoko is one of the best out and out ball winners i've ever seen, and Mascherano looks like the business as well, yet both are very young for their roles. If Alonso can get his act together, he's one of the best central midfielders in the world and Gerrard is definitely one of the best attacking midfielders in the world so I think he should remain in that sort of free role drifting in from the right.
I think our wingers and strikers are the real problem though. Riise is not a left winger, niether is Aurelio, and although I think Kewell is more than able, there has been no suggestion that he'll ever properly get over his injuries, and he's definitely not as quick as he used to be. Gonzalez is trash. There's only so much weight that the 'still settling in' argument can hold. The guy can't dribble at all. He reminds me of Cisse, only he doesn't have the excuse that he's being played out of position. Luis Garcia is a great squad member to have but I wonder will he stay with Voronin's arrival, as they look like quite similar players, although Voronin is less versatile.
More probable is that Fowler will get the chop  but that was always gonna happen. Kuyt is alright, but his form has seriously dipped this year, but he should stay. Although I'm a fan of Bellamy, he'll probably be gone in the summer. Although it's essential we replace him with someone similar but better, Villa or Eto'o are still linked with us and perhaps now we can afford one of them. Until recently, I would have said that Crouch needs to go. He is so slow, and as a result requires the team to almost play around him, which stinks because that means plenty of high balls and piss poor quality of football. Plus he couldn't finish, but against Arsenal and PSV you can't fault him. He took virtually every chance he had, and made two really good headers which shocked me immensely. If he doesn't believe his own hype, keeps up these headers and keeps working hard, he could stay with us. Plus, Benitez has indicated that he doesn't want to sell him, which is a little bit annoying as well because Newcastle were reportedly gonna offer £12m for him!.
Pennant is oooook, but I don't think he should be holding down a starting place. Although Alves is really a right wing-back, I think he'd be effective as a right winger so he'd be a really good signing. Simao remains a possibility.
In conclusion, the core of our team is good enough, defence and midfield is pretty strong, but our main attacking players aren't really good enough.

no i think it'd be funny if he never scored and made a Thing of it. Maybe if he got good at taking penalties and passing he could become another Molby.

well ok. not a chance.
Not much footage from his earlier (better) days. I always remember the jokes on the Kop about him in his later years. He just stood in the middle, too unfit to move, but could spray the ball around the park wonderfully. Even now, when we talk of distribution, Molby is the yardstick, which, coming from the best club in England, is quite some acheivement. Incredible player.

Not really, still scraping by, although the first half of that game against Getafe they played very well. They conceded two cheap goals at the start of the second half, but managed to reply with another two. Scoring 5 goals against Getafe, who are a solid team with the best defence (statistically) in the league isn't too bad.

MU is not the only one. Milan AC also still use same players like Maldini, Costacurta and I prefer teams which build the game with a long preparation (I don't know if you understand what I want to say).
In any way, I don't want Chelski or MU in final for other reasons about which I think it's not necessary to tell here.

Not really. Chelsea are mere newcomers to an obscene bastardization of the sport which the Scum have been participating in for many years now. Yes, Chelsea are arrogant, but they have nothing on United.
El Loto
04-26-2007, 02:37 PM
Wouldn't you be arrogant after everything they've won in the last 15 years? At least United don't use an oligarch with the fortune of a small country to pick off all of the world's talent and make them benchwarmers.

No, i wouldn't. Liverpool were dominant and much more successful for far longer and never had that attitude. You never had lower league matches with the whole crowd chanting "Stand up if you hate Liverpool".
Players are told when they first get to Anfield is that they are a number and nothing more. The club and team will always be bigger than any individual. Discipline is very important and that is why LFC's record in that department has been fantastic.
Someone once made a wonderful analogy - where Liverpool are like a corner shop made big, United are Tescos. They have no local roots, they could easily be Birmingham United, London United. Thats why they have such a poor ratio of support in their own city in comparison to any other side. They have referring to fans as "consumers" for many years now. United have always been the primary club in exploitation, way more so than Chelsea. Changing kits every 6 months etc etc. Sure they are following the Scums example. Why do you think they poached that cunt Kenyon? They think they have the divine right to get anything they want and they revel in players with terrible attitudes. THAT is why they are the most detested club on the planet.
Look a little more closer to home, how much respect do you have for the Auld Firm?
El Loto
04-26-2007, 05:03 PM
None, because of their fans. Also dominance. United have never had that dominance nor have any two teams in England. The player poaching is much worse here because it can render smaller SPL sides useless.
United made their own success and they were quite right to make the most of it financially. In many ways they broke the mould by getting people from the other side of the globe interested in English league football.
In the 90s, we saw the game become much more commercial, I'm sure if Liverpool had been eating up trophies in the late 90s like United they would be on the bandwagon too. How much of the hatred towards United can you say is jealousy. The majority I reckon.

Then why have any respect for United fans? I agree with you about the player poaching.

They made their own success through exploitation and consumerism. The very things which are destroying the game. Liverpool have extremely proud traditions and that is what makes them special. Gillett and Hicks were both told in no uncertain terms that these have to remain in place. There is no way on earth they would do what United did. As someone once said, if it was United who won 4 European cups in 8 seasons, they would had their own cable TV station dedicated to it by now. There are MASSIVE differences in how the clubs are run and maintained. MASSIVE differences in attitudes. Which is why one is respected and the other is not.
It is not jealousy for the most part. You are falling for their smokescreen. If that was the case then Liverpool would be hated even more as we have the most to be jealous of. It is a matter of distaste in their abhorrent demeanour that leaves most hardcore fans with nothing but contempt for them. It is not just the cunts they have on the pitch (although they have never been lacking there) it is the whole essence of the club, their arrogance, unsporting behaviour and what they stand for that fills people with so much hatred.

Osasuna 1-0 FC Sevilla

I can say that about Osasuna (my favourite team, Girondins de Bordeaux, has been eliminated by them :( 0-0 and 1-0 after prolongations :wall: ):
Technically, they are very very poor except few players like Valdo, Soldado
On the contrary, their backs are very robust and play extremely hard
So it's a bad attack and a solid defense.
I think also Sevilla can win. I'm very disappointed in the defeat of Werder when I look they are able to do in the German league.
So. Who's going to the Champions League final this week? Liverpool + AC Milan?
I don't know if Man Utd actually have an advantage going into the San Siro after the first leg. They're short on decent backs.

Rubbish game. A lot of bustle and endeavour, but no quality. Cech was the best player.
About Espanyol - I thought they did very well to get to the final and make a game of it with Sevilla. They only have 3 good players: tamudo, de la pena and garcia. The rest of the team is decidedly average. Kameni doesn't count because he didn't even play in the final.
Watch out for Sevilla next season in the champions league. If they get some more depth to their squad they will be extremely difficult to beat. They've been the best team in La Liga this season by miles. I won't be terribly upset if they win it, as long as Real don't win!
