If so, what have you made?
This summer Alex's aunt helped me make a button-down shirt and a skirt, but personally, I prefer easier things. I'm currently working on a pillow. I've made several already, all by hand.
This is my current work in progress (I still need to smoosh the lumps out and sew it closed):

I don't actually sew, but I like to think about it and buy books about it.

I love to sew and I've been making dresses and selling them on Ebay. I'm currently making my Halloween dress. I had a photo of one similar to what I was planning to make in a thread on the general board but I decided on a different pattern with the same fabric. I've got a regular sewing machine and a serger so making things is much easier than it used to be when I had to do things by hand. I'm completely addicted and I'm building up a collection of sewing patterns. I've just got to start making things for myself instead of thinking about all of the stuff I want to make to sell.
I started off with pillows and ended up with lots of them. Even my cats have their own pillows. I think sewing is particularly handy when you just aren't the same size as the things you find in stores. My torso is too short, my arms are too long, my chest is too big, my ass is too large, my legs are too short (for them anyway, I think all my parts are just fine). If I'm going to spend money on something nice I don't want to go through the disappointment of finding that it doesn't fit right. I also like knowing that if I see some designer item I like there is a chance that I can make it myself for much less.
I'm a bit of an addict.

I had to take a sewing class in the seventh grade as part of my middle school's "occupational education" program. Being male, I was made to make a plush stuffed football. Sewing is awful. Pity them Victorian gals!

That dress you posted is gorgeous, I wish I could make things like that. My mum used to sew and I keep asking her to teach me but she claims she's forgotten, I believe her because I used to make things as a teenager and now I haven't a clue. I still love to think about it though, and I love haberdasheries.

It's not that hard to learn. I make all the clothes from patterns and the machines are pretty easy to figure out. I used to work in a curtain factory but that was completely different from the kind of sewing I do now. I wasn't very good at making clothes in the beginning but over time you just sort of figure things out. The problem I had was actually getting everything. Each of my machines was about $200 and I have a dress form that was $100. I think it's worth it.

Man, do you know how to make authentic corsets? Because I really want one but I don't have $150 to spend on something I'll wear like once a year. :( I was thinking about attempting to make one but I don't know how to sew to save my life.

For my renaissance costumes I always wore a bodice and skirt over a chemise. Next year I'm going as a gypsy because I don't want to wear another uncomfortable costume for ten hours. Up until this year I had never used a pattern for my renfest costume, I just did it from scratch and hoped for the best. When it comes to something like a corset you should just fork over the money for a good one because a bad one will be even more uncomfortable.

I really should learn. My grandma loves to sew and so does my aunt, and even my boyfriend sews. His mom is an awesome seamstress and taught him. I've helped out and attempted before, but I never really got into it. I need to get some motivation to learn quilting though. Both my grandma and his mom looove to quilt, and there is nothing better than curling up in bed with a super-soft quilt :) Cj's mom recently made a quilt for his daughter out of her old baby pajamas, it is the softest cutest thing ever!

But $150 :( Maybe if I try to make one with a pattern, and get my mom to help me, she's pretty good at sewing. I wore a cheap one from charlotte russe last year but it didn't look authentic at all, and I really want one!

I made McCalls 4107 but I think it could have been better. I think Butterick 4254 would be cool even if it isn't from the right time period.

Me too. :darn:
I got a sewing machine a few years back and have used it so infrequently I'm ashamed. Last time I tried to sew something I broke the needle, and I didn't have any more replacements.
Most of my sewing projects end up stapled or taped together. Or hand-stitched, very very crappily hand-stitched.

I sew. I don't let myself sew clothing because I choose horrible fabrics and end up with hideous things. Like pants that have a lake and boats on them, or a puke-brown dress with trees on it.
I sew 2 1/2 inch "U" shaped doll bodies, stuff them, paint evil faces on them with fabric paint and use ribbons and beads and pretty fabric to make clothes and hair. They are very goth looking and decorative.
i wish i could sew :[ i can mend holes and shit, thats about it

I went through a sewing phase once... I think I made about 3 dresses, two jumpers, and a shirt off a pattern. Oh, and a handful of purses and wallets (those were all by hand). I can still sew by hand, and I sometimes do when I need to patch something up, or hem something, but I don't know. I was never gifted or anything. I want to learn to knit though.

I learned too, but after a few afghans, several doilies, and some crafts...all that stuff started piling up, and my house started looking like a grandmas.:darn:
So I threw all the half done projects away and stopped. Thank goodness!

Does anyone know how to embroider? I always like embroidery on clothes at the store so I bought a bunch of plain shirts and jackets and embroidery floss and all that stuff. But I haven't actually learned how to do it yet :/
