I hate pantyhose, haven't worn any in 16 years or so.
I wear thigh high hose if I must be forced into wearing hose.
I love to wear brightly colored knee hi socks. Dorky, but still.
My favorite part of my leg is my calf/ankle.

I only wear black opaque tights, or occasionally purple ones or something, but I usually wear jeans.

i love black opaque tights. Once i bought an awesome pair of black tights at Urban Outfitters and they ripped everywhere the first time i tried them on. CRAP
The only tights i have are crazy colors like bright pink and orange and bright blue with pink and yellow and green and white flowers all over them (so neat) but i never ever ever wear tights b/c they make my legs look soooo fat.
I never wear anything but pants these days. I have loads and loads of skirts but i haven't liked my legs in a while now so i rarely ever wear them. For some reason tho i like dresses a lot more than skirts.

I like the way my legs look in tights or pantyhose, but yeah they are uncomfortable, and I can't ever wear pantyhose for more than like 20 minutes without somehow getting a run in them. every pair of pantyhose I've ever bought has been doomed from the start

99.8% of the time I wear pants. As for the other 0.2%, I just go bare under my skirts. Well, I wear underwear but you know what I mean.

I go bare-legged in skirts long after the weather deems that I should not. I loathe pantyhose and get runs in them all the time, but that's because I buy em cheap. My coworker said that Victoria's Secret is actually quite durable, and I'm inclined to believe her because she hates anything else under that brand name.
Anyway, in the winter for work I will wear knee-highs with pants. I haven't been able to stomach putting on a skirt in 40F and below yet, but I assume I will break down eventually.
In college I was a jeans every day kinda girl. I would really love to buy some opaque tights in a fun color, but I'm not sure if they're corporate appropriate...red with a blue dress? heehee.

I refuse to wear pantyhose.
And I don't really like tights either.
Still, I wear skirts quite often.
And I live in a chilly place!
That is how I justify buying so many pairs of boots.

I like tights because I am too white to wear skirts. I also frequently wear jeans under dresses. I only really bare my legs when I go to the beach. Which is sad, because I have quite nice legs, but their whiteness makes me ashamed to show them off.

Celebrate your whiteness! I think it looks nice, as long as you haven't got the dreaded corned beef legs...

i agree, white power. I am whitest of white. Once, I was at a party and i overheard people saying to each other, "no *I* am whiter!" "no *I*!! am whiter!" and someone said, "well look at her!" and they pointed at me :O!1
laura, also jeans under dresses power. I know we had this discussion before but i will always love that look, so long as it looks nice and isnt like, JNCO jeans under a tent dress or something equally ridiculous.

This is about the only picture of me I have in a skirt, and because of naj messing with the contrast I look a LOT tanner than I really am. That's her skirt, too.

i love love skirts and i wear them with bare legs all the time when it's warm, but between september and may (i'm easily cold ok) tights/stockings are necessary. i simply cannot tolerate the cold. however, i don't wear freakin tan stockings or anything, unless it's a formal event. they're usually black, usually opaque. if i can avoid wearing any type of this garmet with a waistband, i'll do so. thigh highs are infinitely more comfortable than a band of elastic cutting you in half. i really hate wearing tights/stockings in general, but it's just necessary when it's cold. speaking of, i got an awesome green plaid skirt at H&M a few hours ago. :pimp:

lol, and it made you want to get stoned? edit: oh, that's a pimp. not a guy smoking. :( nm.
i agree though with all the rest of you that thigh highs/knee highs are really a lot more comfortable. and i NEVER wear skirts that aren't pretty long because i have fat, fat, fat legs. they always go below the knee :(
there's nothing worse than the lame indentation your stockings gave you in your side fat after wearing them for too long.

I'm trying to gain muscle in my legs, but it's not working out so well.
Larkspur

I think it's really hard to build up muscle in your calves if you're naturally bird-boned. My fiance has really thin long bones and his calves are about as big around as my forearms, poor thing.
Static Split Screen

I'm small-boned (I can not only put my thumb and middle finger around my wrist, I can have them touch halfway up my forearm) and I have to really work to have any muscle. I can gain fat, but muscle, not so much. Though I think 4 dance classes a week has finally given me some though, yaaay.

I'm medium boned but fat now; still i can put my thumb & middle finger around my wrist...but it's because of my abnormally long fingers. :D And even though I quit dance about 7 years ago I gained such big calf muscles that they'll never go away.
What dance do you take? :)

shit i kept reading wrist as waist!
there's pretty much no such thing as big boned! Well, there kind of is, but it's something like only .00000000000005% of the population actually has them. that figure is TR00, 2

Laura, you have fantastic legs and you should show them off! I totally agree with Bailey that not many people are big-boned. There is some accepted formula for working out your build but I can't remember what it is...I'm small-built, hence I am a giant fat despite weighing less than most of my friends.

That you're small-boned also!
And I agree, I see plenty of people with small/medium frames, but I only know 2 or 3 people I'd classify as big-boned (They all still have womanly shapes and aren't fat at all, they're just bigger people.)
I'm taking jazz dance and musical dance, and tonight I'm trying out for a part in the dance ensemble of the musical 'the wiz'

I'm pretty sure I'd count as a big boned person. I've done the wrist test as well as the elbow one, and apparently when I was a littleun the doctors said I'd have a large frame and I'd be big boned and stuff. Not saying that I'm massive or anything, but even if I was skinny I'd still be pretty wide.

that's how i am too, cheryl. even at my lightest which was not a healthy weight for my height, i still looked BIG. i am just a big person in general. wide shoulders, wider hips. even my feet are wide, they look like they've been run over by a truck :(

Laura, you look great, you should never worry about your looks.
I'm 5'2", I weighed 144 and seemed fine in the mirror and compared to other women, but in pictures I looked fat, especially if sitting. I'm too curvy for being so short. Now I weigh 138 and can tell maybe I wasn't "big boned", I was just heavy and in denial. I plan to lose 8 more pounds. Size 12 is getting loose. Of course magazines consider size 12 to be huge, those sick motherfuckers! :pissed:

yah but, BUT you guys, I was watching Celebrity Fit Club, you know the one where fat celebs try to lose weight, and Bone Crusher, the rapper, is huge in general and said "oh i'm big boned" which you could maybe imagine b/c he just seemed to have a large frame. The doctor on the show tho was so angry b/c he said that almost no one actually has big bones, and made Bone Crusher get x-rays done to see his bones. They they compared Bones' bones to the doctor's, who is a tiny guy, and they were the same size!
Larkspur
10-26-2006, 07:47 PM
That must have been crushing for him to see his bones were the same size as the lil guy's.
:org:
Really, though, then what's the difference? My sister is skinnier than me and has been since forever...even if I lost weight and went down to an "optimal" size she'd still be skinny compared to me...like at age 14 she had basically no tits, whereas I had D-cups. She still has no tits. Maybe it's not big-boned vs. small-boned but there's something going on that makes it so even similarly tall people have completely different structure. Big vs. small-muscled?

In that picture I was 5'11" and 109, now I'm about 121. I can't decide if I look better or worse because of it.

id bet better... i can see your skeleton in that pic (its totally cute though!) but when youre that tall an extra 10 lbs would only stop the bone structure from popping out so much.
the big boned thing is funny... everyone always told me i had big bones growing up.. my dad once grabbed my feet and mentioned how wide they are (i only wear a size 6 shoe!) and he was like, wow youre big boned. it made me sad. and they would compaire me to my sisters tiny feet to verify that she had small bones. but she has fat short fingers while mine are really thin... apparently the doc said she might play football when she was born, based on her structure, and he said i would play piano, so wtf. anyway i weighed a bit more than my sister for many years though we wore the same size and now she weighs more than me and i wear a much smaller size than her which is awesome. but we carry our weight in different places so that must be it rather than the bone bullshit. shes an hourglass but im bigger on top

I have wide feet too. They're average size (I think) at 9, but totally wide-o-rama. When I was 12 I had EE size ballet shoes. D: I also have a very high arch, so I can't even get into lots of shoes for that reason or the wideness.
I used to convince myself that the shoes would widen with wear as they stretched out, but I just ended up with closets full of shoes I wore once and never again after my pinky toe and the whole outer sides of my feet went numb and cold after 15 minutes of wearing.
Now I shop on Zappos a lot and search by size so there's no mistakes. :D

Yeah, I'm not as bony, and I have some curves now, which is cool, but sometimes I just don't like feeling bigger.
Man I hate it when people say stuff like that to me. My mom's now ex-boyfriend once said to me I had big ankles. Now I've been worried about my kankles ever since. And one time my mom said I should work on my stomach a bit. I was like 12, and I was still skinny, I'd just put on a bit of fat around my middle because I was getting ready for a growth spurt. :( People don't realize how much little comments like that can stick.
its so true, i was probably 12 when he said that to me but ill always remember it word for word, along with every other insult. they say remember the compliments and forget the insults but that is completely impossible.

I hate it when parents remark on their children's weight (I'm not talking about babies, I'm talking about preteens and so on). I had a friend in high school and college who was somehow the only child out of 5 in her family that inherited the "not extremely tall and willowy" gene. Her father ALWAYS said something to her, including in front of her friends. "P, you should watch your weight. P, should you be eating that? P, maybe you and your sister should go work out together. She looks great, I'm sure you can too!"
Oiiiiiiiiiiii VEY. It's like he never saw that she really was quite pretty despite being a bit overweight. He also overlooked the blatant fact that she has more brains than any of his other kids put together. YES, I'm bitter for her.
I was lucky to never have those comments. If anything my father always told me I was too thin, that I should eat more - and when I finally matured into my adult shape he was ecstatic. I was a skinny teenager, and now I'm "average" as an adult. My mother has major weight issues (mostly she thinks she's a whale when she's not) but she never made me feel bad about myself or worried me over what I was eating. Annnnyways, rant over.

oh psh! even the thinnest of girls can have it, and anyone of worthy intelligence knows it's purely genetic and just a fact of life. (that's not directed at YOU, but anyone who would be "ew, look at her cellulite!")
but you know, i shouldn't be so flippant about it... because a lot of girls who wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt probably have no problem showing their stomach, which i would most definitely prefer death over. tummytuck4meplz

Oh yeah, I know it's genetic. BELEEV ME. hahaha. :D I've had it since I was...11? 12? And I was a skinny little thing, hadn't even developed fully at all. My best friend's dad told me I was too young to have it and that I could get rid of it if I exercised. WTF DOOD. :D
