I did the patch thing for 3 months before it was taken off the market. Went without anything for nearly a year and now I'm on Trinessa and will be for 9 months unless something goes wrong.
I'm taking it to try and straighten out my hormones.

I know close to nothing about birth control. all i know is that it can cause blood clots. I'm kind of worried because I don't like medication and I know this stuff can totally screw with my mental state. already it's making me nauseous, but I guess that's normal for like the first 3 weeks.

so tell me what you can about this stuff. my roomate is on Yasmine. how simular or different is that? are they all genericly simular? what are the probabilities that taking this stuff will really straighten out my hormones?
these are the questions I would ask my doc if I thought that she could give me a straight answer. I think she only likes answers that involve "i'll write you a perscription..."

i'm on trinessa also. why are you only gonna take it for 9 months? it made me nauseous a lot too at first, then it stopped, now it does again. i'm pretty much nauseous more than i'm not. but i've been like that my whole life.

i got pregnant on the ring; i don't recommend it to ANYONE. it was awful.

the blood clot thing is really not something to worry about, i've only known one person that it really affected. and she smoked so i guess she was at a higher risk to begin with. do you smoke? you'll be fine. the pill i think has a lower occurrance of stuff like that than the other methods of hormonal bc.

other than that i dunno. i'm not too good with the science behind it.

I'm only on it for 9 months because I'm hoping that after that my body can produce the right hormones on it's own. I really don't want to be on this the rest of my life. I really don't like medication. I'm very close to being anti-medication, but I went 4 months without a period before my last one and it made me terribly ill and depressed, so this is kind'a my last resort. which isn't so grand because this pill also has the potential of making me terribly ill and depressed which is why I hate medication.

I'm not trying to prevent pregnancy so the ring thing isn't for me, but when I saw a commercial for it, the first thought in my mind was "it'd be so cool if they made them glow in the dark!" I'd wear one if it was glow in the dark.
actually, I'm not very sure what it is, but I'm thinking glow in the dark ring in my crotch would be awesome.

my aunt got a blood clot while on birth control, so now my mom is paranoid about it and doesn't go a day without telling me warning signs for blood clots. she makes me anxious.

The benefits totally outweigh the risks. Blood clots are really rare and usually only occur if you're a smoker over the age of 35. If you're reasonably
healthy I wouldn't worry at all. I was on OrthoNovum and yeah, I was hungry a lot, but my periods were heavenly. Sounds silly, but I've had extremely heavy periods since I was 12. :(

forgot to mention that benefit, cheryl! thanks for reminding me. shorter/lighter periods, for most people less cramping, too! for me it takes away boob tenderness as well.

It would! do you think if enough people say that's what they want, then the manufacturers would make them?

I didn't have any!

for me it enduces cramping. I usually don't have any cramps, but now that I"m on the meds I get them and it always weirds me out because I'm not used to hurting there. It's like "my word! what did I do to my lower abdomin?"

my doctor just emailed me with blood test results indicating a mild case of polycistic ovary syndrome meaning, my body is making too much testosterone. Once again, I am certain that God meant to make me a guy, but got confused and made me a girl and my little brother a guy (who happens to be extremely girly).

they might. you should write a letter to the company.

the ring is already $60 a month if you don't have insurance! i don't think an extra $20 is really worth a glowin' crotch.

Don't be so negative. maybe they could fit a little chip in there that would make it play music.

You should patent the idea. I don't think you can get that ring here yet anyway, but a musical one would be ace.

How can you say that a glowing crotch isn't worth $20? I'd say cheap at twice the price, you wouldn't have to have the light on to read or anything.

just think, in another 20 years, women could be going around with music and flashing lights coming from their crotch.

well, not to make you worry or anything but another girl on the Elliott board named Bailey was on the pill and i dont think she was a smoker and got blood clots in her lungs or something and probably almost died. But, like everyone else said, it's rare.

And i don't understand why you'd take it to balance out your horomones, as it does anything but that and just makes them screwy! You'll have to be on the pill forever if you want your horomones to remain the same. Otherwise, when you go off the pill, it takes about a year before everything goes back to normal. I'm learning this the hard way, as my skin is all screwy after coming off the pill and i know it's because of the pill. It's not horrible or anything, just a random pimple here or there but it's because of the horomone change and is really annoying.

I wish i could stay on the pill as i prefer it to having to worry about condoms, but it just became a real hassle for me after a while. At first when i started taking it (this being Yasmine), it made me really depressed and nauseous for a while. That eventually balanced out for a little, but then everything came back full force, including losing my sex drive and being incredibly depressed. So i'm off it and i feel a lot better, mentally anyway. I miss the nice periods though.

to a normal person, perhaps. from what I understand, the pill puts estregin in your body. it's been shown in other medications (as well as in this one) that when your body is used to having more of a certain hormone, it'll start making more of that hormone, when the artificial hormone is taken away. people due it with melatonin. they're basicly teaching their bodies to make the hormone on it's own. in all hopes, that's what mine will do. I've known women that take the pill for 3 months in order to make their bodies comply and after that, their bodies start producing it's own hormone at the right amount. It doesn't happen for everyone and if it doesn't happen for me, I very well could be on this the rest of my life, but I'm praying that's not the case.

Oh that's cool that's cool, i dont know anything about that. I just hope that it doesn't screw with your other horomones to the degree that it will be messed up when you get off the pill.

I absolutely hate birth control but my skin started getting really bad so I started taking Aviane. I'm going to go on it for a month and see if it really helps my skin. If it does, I'll stay on it, unless it makes me gain more than 3 pounds. I'm not even hungrier but I find myself eating more and it's really annoying me.
