Why is calling a person of the female gender a cunt any worse than calling her any other meanie-pants name?

a girl did raise a valid point to me in my last job that the C-word doesnt have a male equivalent of the same rudeness. She was a bit of a feminist at heart and i tried saying cunt aint that bad - but really it is it's just I use foul language nonchalantly with my mates so it's lost some of it's severity.

well i call men cunts too.
thing is, it's much more offensive and less used in the US than, say, the UK; but danny and co have desensatized me to it. i have to catch myself from saying it sometimes.

I rarely call women cunts, it's more of a derogatory thing so you say it to a man, similar to calling them a pussy. Yet it doesnt work backwards, men can be cocks, dicks and nobs but women are rarely cocks.
Now i'm just drowning in a sea of obscenity and have lost my chain of thought
Oh I don't think calling a bloke a cunt is like calling him a pussy, I think of cunt as a similar type of thing (but obv. more offensive) to bastard and arsehole.

it's not a word I use often, I rarely take offence to swearing, it depends how it's delivered. I don't know if I swear a lot, or not. I think I go through patches where I lace my conversation with expletives.. then other times I forget naughty words exist! Funny story!!
Rupert Everett was on This Morning a few weeks ago, he was telling some anecdote about Sharon Stone/sex scene type thing. Anyway, he did a mock sharon voice and said "do you know what i say when i'm fucking a man?".. and then realised he'd say fucking on live tv... twas funny cos he didn't even get to finish the story. he apologised profusely and then looked like he was about to cry cos he thought he was going to get fined, or something.

my current favourite is "mug". which isn't sexual at all it just flows well.
P.S. a woman said cunt on Radio 4 of all places a few years ago. She apologised and carried on and was commended by it. She meant to say "Jim Hunt" or something like that. I just heard about it on the news
Caprice said cunt on This Morning once (she was promoting the Vagina Monologues), they didn't get a single complaint.

shockingly I will listen to radio 4 if the topic interests me, it's quality journalism :O and the style reminds me of what britain was probably like in teh 40's and before.
I was also surprised that "God Save The Queen" was played every night when the TV stopped until the 80's

I think cunt is much more offensive. I've never liked the word.

I'm offended that cunt is offensive, so I started saying it a few years ago - take it back ladies! I remember the Caprice thing, it was funnier the time she was promoting National Prune Week and refused to talk about anything other than prunes - she didn't swear that time though.
Rula Lenska said "fuck" on Richard and Judy, she was impersonating Mike Reid, maybe she could form a support group with Rupert Everett?
"Pussy" is probably my least favourite euphamism for female genitalia, aside from the ones that are meant to sound gross (i.e. pissflaps). Every time I hear someone say it it makes me cringe hard.

I hate any and all terms for female genitalia. The only one that's acceptable is the general term croch, and even then it's still not good.

I really like the way the word "cunt" feels rolling off the tongue. Cunnnt. Cunnnnt. So great.

Try "ladybits" Maddie! That's my preferred noun.

If I'm being deliberately crass I'll say vag, though other times I'll just use vagina or ladybits, I imagine neither of those would be good for dirty talk however.

pussy still makes me cringe a bit but i've found myself saying it all the time anyway. cunt used to bug me a lot but now its pretty much my favourite word. i dunno, i'm not too offended by anything.

I don't actually cuss at people. But when they can't hear me, I'll call them anything that comes to mind.

Question: Do you think there is any equivalent insult for males?

Wouldn't you be a bit insulted if someone called you a cunt? It's equally insulting to all and sundry round our way.
