i used to get painful periods when i was around 15, 16, and then a couple years ago when i went on the pill the pain really subsided and everything was grand. Then in the spring, my periods were beginning to be a little painful again.

Now i'm off the pill and am having my first period since and i am dyingggggg. Just hi bye lie die crying everywhere. I have horrible cramps and want to be hunched over myself all day but im at work : (

does anyone else have painful periods? what do you do to relieve it?

i used midol once but it didnt do anything for me i dont think. i like heating pads too but i obvs cant use one outside of home.

i kind of dont want a period right now ever again.

like i said in the PMS thread, ever since a year ago i've been having mad painful periods. all i do is bend over at the waist and rock back and forth and load up on ibuprofen.
make sure whatever pain killer you're taking has ibuprofen in it cause that helps with muscle aches! fortunately for me i have leftover percoset (sp?) so ijust go to sleep when i have cramps if i have time.

i hope that your cramps go away... mine won't start for about a week. *sigh*

yes, dont take asprin b/c it makes you bleed more! i never ever take any pain meds along the lines of asprin (advil, ibu etc) b/c a long time ago i just stopped taking them and now i'm stubborn, but i might have to w/ this period. Arfing blows.

i dont know why, but rocking back and forth like that is so natural to me. lol what does that even mean, holy shit.

godspeed : (

eh, I have no advice for this, though if you are in a position to do so put a hot water bottle between your legs, better than front or back, true story.

Ouch, I've had some painful ones in my time, I offer my condolences. :( Ibuprofen really helped me get through it.

Hi Cathrine! My you're looking pretty today. I am having awful periods and I think my overirees are bursting with estrogen. Need help, yes.

One of my professors said that calcium is a huge help with periods, but nobody ever tells women about it. It's worth a shot.

P.S. Cat, seriously, my overiess!

y'all make sure you don't have ovarian cysts or endometriosis. I know I know I sound like crazy grandma but my SIL had endometriosis for yeeeeeeeeeears which caused her horrible horrible pains. she had it treated finally and now she is bettah! ...anannnndndnd my best friend had/has ovarian cysts. she can't do much about them but at least she knows, yay!

I have mild to moderate cramping pain on the first day of my period and then i'm done.

today i had random periods of slightly bloody dischrage and that was IT. i dunno if that was my period starting or what. how lame

I dunno, if you are painsin' it up all the time I think you can yell at your gyn about it and they can do . . . multiple diagnostic tests to find out? :D Maybe an ultrasound?

i get mega mega horrid period pains and generally spend an entire day in bed up to my eyeballs with painkillers, rocking back and forth like a woman possessed. i just take lots of ibuprofen and knock myself out enough so that i don't puke from the pain.

Tylenol! A school nurse said to be more active to help with cramps, half the time I think it helps.

i've been pretty lucky cause i rarely get cramps. i can always tell when i'm gonna get my period cause i feel like crying for no reason for a day before i get it, then i'm ok usually. but i've noticed lately my periods have been a lot longer then they used to be. before and while being on bc they were about 5 days, pretty standard. but lately they are like, 7. its hella effin lame.

so i started my period yesterday and i've already eaten like 50,000 calories i wasn't hungry for.

my period makes me eat..

Barbara

me too cat. And it seems like the last few years, I have ravenous hunger that will not be satisfied!! When I was a kid and in high school, my family always teased me for not eating enough, but I would honestly eat when I was hungry, and stop when I was full, and I just happened to get full really quick! Ha, not anymore...now it's like every time it gets close to lunch or dinner time, my stomach reacts with violent hunger pangs that make me feel like I'm gonna freakin' die if I don't eat something RIGHT NOW arrgh...

it's even worse when I'm on my period, cause then the menstral cramps combine with the hunger pains to make one big super-cramp!

you know, men have periods too. not those periods, but there is a time of the month when men feel shitey due to hormone changes etc. look it up if you don't believe me! (did someone already mention this?)

well, I was looking for factual evidence but I came across this instead. And it made me chuckle.

yeah. i've heard that's true. but i have a feeling it compares in the kind of way when girls are like, "i know getting hit in the balls hurts, but so does getting hit in the boobs!" like, it's true, but not really comparable.

and lol eliot, that was funny!

Have you tried these portable heating pads (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=72540&catid=26832&trx=GFI-0-PLP&trxp1=26832&trxp2=72540&trxp3=1&trxp4=1&btrx=BUY-GFI-0-PLP)? They work OK, better than nothing at all.

Also, tampons made my cramps hella worse and upset my tummy, too, which I didn't realize till I tried another method (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=40597&catid=9587&trx=PLST-0-SEARCH&trxp1=9587&trxp2=40597&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SEARCH). Now I refuse to go back to tampons.
