why do girls like it so? i have to say the idea of moving around a busy "mall" like Bluewater fills me with dread, even if I'm going to buy something really good/wanted etc.
oh and the no1 annoyance, going out "shopping" but not intending to buy anything. *shudder*

i think its more so the act of getting new stuff to wear rather than the act of shopping itself. it is in my case anyway. Plus there is so much shit to choose from, so the possibilities are endless!

I hate going into town for shopping. I totally agree with you Fraser. The amount of idiots going around put sme right off.

shopping makes me sad about the state of the human race, moreso than an activity like going to the cinema, football match etc. yes there are a disproportianate amount of plebs and plonkers in shopping centres, two worst local ones are Chatham High Street and The Pentagon (also in Chatham).
trickster: hmm maybe, but that doesnt really explain window shopping...or maybe it does if you say women are easily pleased. when I see something I can't and maybe could never afford, it makes me depressed!

I don't like shopping around other people but for me, shopping releases endorphins. I like buying things and I like shopping around to find the best prices.

Shopping has changed for me. It used to be exciting to get something new to wear or have. Then it became a game to see what I could find on the clearance aisles for cheap, I was bored to tears staying home with a toddler 24/7. I was wasting money and buying crap I never used. So I stopped that.
Then the mall and stores was just a place to go to get out of the house without spending money. We also went to parks a lot.
Then I would shop alone on weekends to get away from my child for a few hours while hubby watched him. This kept me sane.
Now I still go to stores/mall to waste time and just get out about once a week. I search for stuff I want, but I can't find anything I like. Then I return home and feel like I wasted my whole day. I even know I'm going to feel that way when I leave the house. I end up at stores because there's not many places to go that I haven't already been to 100 times.
Shopping for clothes isn't fun anymore because all the cute clothes I see, are too young for me. Old lady clothes suck, and there's not much in between. It's either work wear, or jogging suits or jeans, I don't wear jeans.
I hate wasting money on decorations for my home too, I'm not into getting things or clothes to show off. I like shopping for laundry soap, school supplies and shampoo, and other junk we need.

I'm not such a fan of the shopping itself, I like finding things that I like. I also like going to places like Harvey Nichols or Selfridge's or Liberty to look at all the wonderful things, Selfridge's in London is like an art gallery for me. On the whole, I prefer internet or mail order shopping though, because then you don't have to wade through crowds and stuff, though there is a lot to be said for going clothes shopping on midweek mornings when it's quiet.
My favourite things to shop for are books, because I can always find something I want.

there's no apostrophe in Selfridges, is there. I thought it looked wrong.

Personally, when I go to a mall or a department store, I know exactly what I want, I go straight to where it is, I buy it and I leave as quickly as possible. I hate shopping 95% of the time.

peter, that's what i hear about men. When they walk into the store, they go in looking for exactly what they want, then they pick it up and leave. Women go to look around and then figure it out. Then the stores organize the merchandise so that womens clothes are in the back so that they have to look at everything else in the store before getting to their own section. I kinda made that up but it makes sense.
I like shopping b/c i like to buy. I dont like window shopping b/c it depresses me. Buying things makes me very happy. For a while i was a little bit addicted to buying things and it got to a point where i was craving it and felt horrible if i didnt buy things! Then i got really poor and just couldn't do it anymore, which is for the better. I don't buy expensive things though, just lots of cheap, crappy things : (
i cant wait to start shopping again though! spending all my hard earned money on shoes and jeans and tops. I don't like shopping online though b/c i dont trust myself to fit into things without trying them on, which is a bummer b/c online shopping can be fun. I like buying cds online and stuff though. Wow this was a boring post, sry and bibi.

I only like shopping with friends, I absolutely hate shopping alone. If I go alone I shop like a male; just get what I want and go. And even when I'm shopping with friends, I can only take so much, after awhile I can't take it anymore. And I'm such a cheapass I hate spending money, even if it's on something I really want.

i rarely go shopping with my friends, and if i do it's fine and whatever, but i like going by myself a lot so i can work at my own pace and all. And i think i get into a trance when i am alone and go into this whole weird shopping mode thing. Celestial peace. lol : ( Why do you hate going alone?

oh and here's a story relating to what peter said:
the airline lost my dad's luggage and he had to go out on sunday evening to buy clothes for his business trip. he called and he was like, "yeah i spent like an hour at the mall.. it was awful. but i got what i needed." and my mom and i just looked at each other and were like, "he found a weeks worth of clothes in an HOUR?!"

Same here...I only really go shopping when I know what is that I'm going to get...I never go to the shops on a whim to see if something takes my interest or whatever...

I don't know, I get lonely and I keep talking myself out of buying anything at all, whereas if I go with Naj she's like "ohhh get it it looks so nice on you" and then I do because I love Naj.

I only really go shopping if I'm hungover and need something 'nice' to make me feel better/take my mind of feeling shite. I usually buy a couple of CDs or DVDs. Once I bought 2 Simpsons boxsets.. which made me feel worse cos they were damn expensive, plus they were seasons that had only just been repeated on C4, so I'd seen them all really recently.
The worst person to go shopping with is my eldest sister. She'll go to buy shampoo (or something nominal) and end up spending shit loads and going back to the car with 5 bags or so.
Man, boring answers all round. :D

I love shopping, but I can't go alone because I'll end up buying something that looks ridiculous on me and returning it. I need to go with someone who knows me and is honest if I'm going to buy anything.
When my mom and I are together we shop pretty much every single day.
I like shopping with others, as well. If I go shopping myself it'll only be for an exact something that I know I want.

If someone else goes with me shopping, it's Louise. She has more fashion-sense that I do and used to work at Marshall Fields (huge department store) so she knows who the reliable clothing makers are and where to find deals...we generally come away with things that are good, and she makes sure that I don't buy the shirts that say things like "Louisiana is for Lovers" and dumb crap like that.
