View Full Version : For King's Quest Fans (or adventure gamers)

I just found a remake of King's Quest III (http://www.infamous-adventures.com/kq3/) which kicks much ass. This was one of my favorites of the series, even though I think IV & VI were done better. There was something about that wizard which stuck with me. I have a love for the games that got me into computers. Something about swapping 5.25" disks which I miss. Wait, no I don't. That sucked.
Perhaps even better is an entirely NEW KING'S QUEST (http://www.tsl-game.com/ - just the demo at the moment). I've been tracking this one for quite awhile, and even thought about contributing, as it was an open project made by fans.
The company that now owns the rights to the King's Quest series originally did a cease & desist, but after a successful online petition, they granted them the rights to do the game. Best of all, the entire thing will be FREE.
The demo has some minor gameplay flaws (like an ice skating King Graham), but for a not for profit project, it looks extremely well done. It really captures the King's Quest world.
Damn, I'm such a dork.

This may be totally meaningless to most people, but I am rather shocked by Wikipedia's article on Robert Williams, creator of the King's Quest series. It turns out she posed for the cover of the Sierra game, "Softporn". I was aware of the title (sort of an early Leisure Suit Larry), but not that she was topless in a hot tub on the cover! Considering the other cover she did, "Mixed Up Mothergoose", it's kind of odd. No wonder Mothergoose is so mixed up!

I recommend:
7 Days a Stranger
According to Abandonia, there is "5 Days a Stranger", and "7 Days a Skeptic". Are both worth downloading?

Oops, typo. I haven't played 5 Days a Stranger (yet I managed to get it mixed into the typo) but I assume it's good. 7 Days a Skeptic is very good. Short game but well made.

Sweet. Thanks for posting this John. I was a huge Space Quest/Kings Quest/Police Quest fan in the 80s (oh and I liked Leisure Suit Larry too). Very cool, I wish Sierra was still in the Adventure Game business.

I preferred LucasArts for adventure games, hilarious.

No problem Aaron. King's Quest introduce me to the DOS world. Yay for sierra.exe!
Lucas Arts was the opposite side of adventure games, and I love them just as much. They're so different in nature that I love them equally. Maniac Mansion, DOTT, Sam & Max, Monkey Island, Full Throttle... Lucas Arts made some amazing adventure games. I'm so disappointed that they've majorly disappeared, but considering Sam & Max's return, perhaps we'll be getting back to them.

me too. I think Space Quest was my favourite of that series.
But I gotta admit LucasArts did do it better. Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island and the Indiana Jones series.
I think with the whole Dynamix offshoot of Sierra they tried to modernize the feel of their games (Willy Beamish wasn't bad) but it didn't quite work.
Just to have mention Star Control II. The best game of that era that had an adventure-game component to it, tho it was a lot of strategy/action too.

Is that the one where a lot of it is flying around and blasting stuff? I think there's a remake of that called the Ur Quan masters or something.
Indeed there is because the original makers posted the entire source code of the 3DO version or something. It's almost exactly the same game.
I played the adventure game part of the Ur Quan masters not that long ago, altho I cheated to finish it quicker...

For some reason it runs too fast on my computer and that makes space combat nigh on impossible.
Speaking of adventure games, i just downloaded the demo of the new Broken Sword game, looks pretty good, hope this pc can run it!
