There's a marvellous programme on BBC4 called Reader, I Married Him, all about romantic literature. Let's discuss our favourite characters from literature and films and stuff! And other things to do with such things, whatever.
Literary crushes
Stephen Dedalus (when I was 16, alright?)
Mr Rochester
Dick Diver (I don't understand why, but feh)
Dean Moriarty
Jude the Obscure
Odysseus

and my all-time top fictional character, straddling lit and film (so to speak)
Mr Atticus Finch.

ps you are entirely welcome to make this thread slightly more meaningful. On a slight tangent, I noticed whilst watching the aforementioned programme that Grania looks like Vivien Leigh.

haha, Stephen Dedalus. but yeah.
kind of in love with Augie March.
always love all the Veens, but yes, Van.
and Atticus, totally! or maybe it's just Gregory Peck, who knows.

Stephen Dedalus is a goofy twerp; Bloom is the good egg. And having a thing for Van Veen is like having one for Patrick Bateman. Chicks are looney.

whatev. but they're just attractions, okay, not planning-to-marry. only MAYBE Augie in that sense, 'cept he'd probably be a big-time cheater. ugh. can't me and my fake crushes just be.

I want to marry Atticus! He encompasses the benevolent, posh, spectacle-wearing ideal I have cherished for many a long year.

when i first read To Kill a Mockingbird, in like fourth/fifth grade, i wanted Atticus to be my dad, and so that's what it's been. but i lust after Gregory Peck, so it's all very confusing! if i ever marry and have kids, i want the fellow to be an Atticus to the kids(s) though? haha i'm spending too much time thinking about this. perhaps, Ciona, one day you'll meet a stoic, bespectacled, quiet widower and be his new lease on life! what?

Oh yes! I'd prefer him not to be widowed though, and not to have existing children, though Scout and Jem are darlings and I would have babies if it could be guaranteed they'd be like them.

that's just the thing. i'm scared to have kids. i wish there were some gaurentee that they'd be Scout and/or Jem types. i'd have to be heavily medicated for the rest of my life were i to ever squirt out a hickish wild-child like my brother.
