View Full Version : Do you like your jeans, and if so, where did you get them?

I. Need. Jeans. Now. I have been searching and searching for the perfect jeans and i don't know where to find them. I mean, I have looked in so many places that i lost my eyesight for a day. I also don't want to spend more than $100 though. The only jeans i've been wearing for the past year have been H&M and Gap, but H&M dont seem to have any decent washes or cuts anymore, and Gap just sucks in general. They stretch and get pillar things on them and just are crap.
I want just a straight leg, dark dark wash with no whiskers or bleach spots or anything. Somebody fucking help me.
I kinda wanted something like that and ended up in the men's section of Target. It wasn't too bad!

I think i tried on a pair there once that were $20 or something and they really werent bad! but they were too big and they only had probably something like either size 0 or size 16, as that is always how life goes for whatever reason.

i found the most perfect freaking pair of jeans. from express, dark wash, bootcut, low rise, short length. they happen to fit me perfectly. i was thrilled when they started selling goddamn bootcut jeans again, instead of just skinny and flared.
gap jeans also fit pretty well, and i CAN NOT wear any kind of bottoms from H&M- pants, skirts, jeans, nothin. they are all so, so long and they don't carry petite/short lengths. their waists are also cut for hourglasses. literal hourglasses.

My friend has a pair from Express and they look really nice on her. I don't really like bootcut for me, i really just want a fucking straight leg! Not skinny skinny b/c my thighs are too thick, just straight! I have straight ones now but they are Gap and getting totally lame. Last time i went to express it was alllllllll skinny.
H&M do have really long jeans, i don't like that, but for a while they fit me really well. Now their jeans just look ghetto and crap. One of my fav pair of jeans of all time were from H&M : (

really my biggest problem, even moreso than my midgetness, is my ass (or lack there of). i don't have one, and so many jeans look just ridiculous. i have a master plan to have fat sucked out of my stomach and replanted in my butt. they can do that, right?
i don't mind getting pants tailored for length if they fit REALLY great everywhere else, but i don't have the patience to do it for every pair i buy.
i do wear skinny jeans, but only, ONLY for the purpose of wearing boots over them. i never wear them with shoes other than boots. i do have a pair of them from express also, which fit really great.

sometimes I feel like shopping for jeans is like ordering coffee at starbucks, for example, taken from an earlier post:
dark wash, bootcut, low rise, short length
an example taken from starbucks:
grand non-fat 180 degree mocha no-whip.

I think H&M sucks for jeans, I've never found a pair in that shop that I really like.
My current fave are from Burton's, which isn't a shop that I usually..erm...shop in. But they had an offer on jeans, like buy one pair get another half price or something.
The pair that I like at the moment have these tears in them, and there is one by my crotch that is getting wider and wider. One day I'm sure something will roll out and scare someone. But that thought kind of turns me on.
I don't like those bleached jeans, that have white panels on the legs....yuck...

I've only found ones I like from Gap and Express. It's so annoying how every store is different, I can be anywhere from a 0-4 and it bothers me. And I hate skinny jeans because I think they look ridiculous. I need to get some new ones because all the ones I have pretty much are broken or stained or ripped :( Curse my 36" inseam legs.

Bailey, you need to get someone to send you some Topshop jeans, I've got three pairs that are pretty much exactly what you're looking for. I buy nearly all mine from there because they make clothes that fit people who aren't giraffes (though they clothe almost all giraffes too), and you're allowed to have an arse. I like the way Miss Sixty jeans fit round the top but they're chavvy and only come in 34" leg, pretty much. I also second Grania's approvel of Diesel.

I have a pair of "vintage" ben sherman jeans which look absolutely brilliant on me. They have that slightly worn look, but the denim is super soft. They also make my ass look quite nice I've been told. I got them at Marshall Field's (now Macy's) about a year ago for $50.

Ciona, i've never been to Top Shop, even tho i always stare at their website and dream of going. I just get so scared to buy anything in England b/c it's so expensive for me, but i dont even care at this point b/c i fucking need some shit! I'm gonna be there in January so I might just hop over and buy some jeans.

I have problems shopping for jeans, because my proportions are weird. I'm not exactly pear-shaped, but most jeans that are the proper waist size are a little tight around my hips. The best jeans I've found are actually from Old Navy, ultra low waist, bootcut, no stretch. Unfortunately most of their jeans are stretchy and that's just ucky.

honestly, i was really excited to topshop, but i wasn't impressed. their clothes seemed to fit me the way H&M do- made for literal hourglasses who have hips 10" bigger than their waist and are super tall. i'm sure it can be great sometimes, it just depends on what's in a particular store at the given time.
zara, though, i LOVE, and i'm really excited that some are opening up in the US (but not at the same time because it makes it lose some specialness ;\ )

lol cheryl, we are opposites. I can't wait low rise, if the jeans are great i like stretch, and bootcut is meh for me. But it's just because of my bod that i can't do low and i like some stretch. But the times i owned old navy jeans and they were stretchy, the stretch honestly lasted all of ONE HOUR, ONCE, and then they became like pajamas for me.
i've never tried top shop clothes on, but i hope they fit me b/c it is my style ;( h&m usually works pretty well for me for tops, so i hope they do tooo. And it's not b/c i'm a 6' tall hourglass! Altho, my hips are a bit bigger than my waist, but are unfortunately like, annoyingly big.
Is Zara expensive? B/c i was just looking at their coats and they were so neat!

YES! i saw it on dr. 90210. there was this brazilian chick who was already skinny but according to her, she had "love handles" and no ass. she got her supposed love handles liposuctioned and had the fat sculpted back into her butt.

Topshop are actually quite good for the short, or so I find. They do 30/31ish length jeans and because they are mean and aimed at teenage girls the shoulders are small, and you're allowed to have a small back and big boobs! I have the 10" measurement difference going on (more like 12" sometimes, if I'm in a thinnish phase) so that is very nice for me. I can't do Zara, I don't understand the sizes and everything fits me like a sack. Horses for courses, ladies!

i love dkny jeans. i never used to find jeans that fit so i never wore them, but now i buy a pair or two every year. and they last and they make them with all kinds of cute details.
but i think it really depends on your body.
I had a pair of DKNY jeans that fit me perfectly, but they got lost or stolen or something... along with a super-cute top I had in a dark teal and a sateen material that plunged just right :( But I really can't afford to buy a new pair... and then there's my pair of black wash Retro Fox jeans I got at Marshall's for $13 that fit me so well too, but they're starting to wear out and I'm starting to get smaller. They no longer sell the ones I'm looking for on the website, and I've been searching on ebay forever and I cannot find them. I don't feel like spending $60 + tax on black wash jeans from American Eagle or wherever... why is it so difficult??

I think 95% of Old Navy's jeans are stretchy. :darn: It's not usually a problem, but for me they get stretched out at the knees and then when you stand up they look like shit. It happens with all jeans I've come across, but with stretchy jeans they're nice for yeah, about an hour. :(
As for the rise, I have to wear my jeans low. I have a flat (but wide, unfortunately) butt so it works. And anything else on me looks like mom jeans.

So. I bought some jeans at Express yesterday; they are really, really dark blue which i like okay, and they are bootcut and just a leeetle bit too boot cut for me, i wish they were more straight leg but we'll see. I'm going to wear them around the house to see if i wanna keep them. They are stretchy tho so i had to go a size down which are a leeetle small but hopefully it'll work out. I mean, i dont wanna be stuck w/ jeans that fit comfortably but stretch to size 89 in a week, gnome sane?
but yeah i hope they work out b/c i dont have a single pair of nice going out jeans, even tho i dont go anywhere :D

I am so sad, my very favorite pair of jeans are breaking more every time I wear them. There's a big hole in one knee and all the edges are fraying. I've had them for maybe 3 years or so, but I love them, they always fit me really well no matter what weight I am. :(

I am guilty of pretty much every denim crime of the last 20 years, I think the early 90s elephant leg flares were probably the worst. Not that I've got anything against flares, I used to be a bit of a flower child when I was 18 or so and wore flares to the exclusion of other trousers.

i can't pull off flares, but i like when people can really pull them off. it's cute and things.
i still haven't decided if i'm keeping the jeans or not! they are the perfect length, but an associate i was talking to said they might shrink in length and i said 'can i return them if they shrink too much?' and she said no which i think is shit

I can only wear flares/bootcut, it's the only jean type that's flattering for my fat ass thighs.
It's hard because I hate anything low rise and below, because they ALWAYS go halfway down my ass if I bend over just even a little bit.
It's really hard for me to find jeans nowadays, and when I do find jeans/pants that are perfect, I wear them out really fast and then can never find them again

I love flares!
i was so guilty of the huge flares when i was 13.. its really horrible to think about.
i hate shopping for jeans. its pretty much impossible when you are very short and a student (so no money for designer lengths and all that). gap sucks, old navy REALLY sucks, h&m is awesome for everything but pants, bootlegger is a place we have here thats affordable but they always stretch out to the point where i need to wear a belt and they look awful and i hate wearing belts with anything... sometimes american eagle gives me what i want, and this brand we have here called garage, i got a nice pair of grey jeans for 20$ with a great fit and low rise. i only do low rise cause as a short person i also look like im wearing mom jeans if theyre not. finding a nice wash is also impossible most of the time which is so very frustrating. i hate very dark blue jeans or ones with tacky bleach spots and tears and things, just give me a nice fade, worn in a bit, with more of a yellow than white undertone and im happy.
my solution arrived with ebay. if youre willing pay 100$ as the thread started said, you can get rock n republic, diesel, citizens of humanity and all those awesome designer jeans for 40 - 100$ rather than the 200$+ you pay for these in stores.
ebay is also great because you dont have to deal with stupid salespeople. and you can get exactly the size you want. i need a 28 waist which is anywhere from a 0 to a size 5 depending on the brand which made me realize why things never fit me when i was buying far to big a size without knowing it. buying jeans by size instead of measurement is something i will never do again. but thats hard if youre shopping in store unless you bring measuring tape.
and now i can get the lenth i need which is 29-30 inches, which means most of my jeans have always had to be hemmed since this length is 'petite' and only made by good brands that i couldnt afford.
anyway, my recent discovery of the greatness of ebay has solved so many problems and made my wardrobe so much nicer and more affordable.

altho i don't know your body's nuances, typically if you have big thighs, which i do, you don't want to wear jeans that go in at the knee cap b/c it accentuates the thigh area. However, im sure if you have pants that aren't all that restrictive around the knee and stuff it's fine, i was just passing this info along! That's why i can't wear flares myself. Like i said, i dont know yer body tho and i trust u!
And you can't always trust inch measurements for some reason. Even tho it seems as if 28" = 28", i've tried on a certain waist size at one store that was vastly, vastly different at another. I can't trust buying anything off ebay because i need to try everything on before i buy it.

i hate flares, for the record. i get extremely heated when i'm looking through pants and jeans and it's all i see. no offense, just sayin.
i cannot wear pants or skirts from H&M, ever, and it kills me. they are all made for people with tiny waists, substantial hips, and are at least 5'8", at LEAST. nothin doin on my short assless ass.
Kelly Kapowski
10-24-2006, 08:01 PM
i wouldn't be too upset about not being able to wear h&m jeans b/c they haven't had any decent ones for a long, long time now. The washes are like, out of control and they're not flattering etc etc. I read that in some h&m stores, if you work there the only jeans you can wear are from h&m! that is rough.
That being said, a couple of my fav jeans were/are from h&m, but as you said, they were way, way too long. I was too much of an eager beaver to get them hemmed tho so then they just got gross. I have birthing hips tho, so, ya know ;(
yeah the size thing is confusing. like a 28 can be a 30 inch waist with a 32 inseam and im just like wtf? i havent had a problem as i hate trying things on in the store so if it fits wrong i will get it altered or sell it and a lot of ppl allow returns. i just find it so much easier cause the selection is massive and i can find anything i want in any size/length for so much cheaper.

i really do wish i had hips. really, i'm not trying to be cute. it'd be nice to not have the body of a boy (from below my boobs down, i guess).
ironically i actually bought a skirt at H&M tonight. it's green plaid and it's meant to be mini, which is why it's not too long on me. i also got a black sweater with pink sparkly stars, a really cool green and purple striped wrap sweater, and some basics like tanx and undies. overall a good haul.
here here on the sizing issue. once i was in guess with my mom trying on jean skirts and she had to keep running and getting me smaller and smaller sizes... i estimated up since their clothes run small, and with each smaller size i needed a smaller one. it was a nice ego boost, but got boring after a few tries.
I'm intensely bitter over sizing at zara. i really loved zara in england, and i bought a few things there. so i was elated when one opened in philly. i stopped in and bought a few knit tops there, grabbed a large because they run small, and went on my way. when i tried them on at home they were TOO SMALL. when i get tops from just about anywhere else, i'm a medium or sometimes a small, and their large did not fit. i'm a size 6!! of course that fluxuates with brands/designers, but it's my usual size. why the hell should a 6 be too fat to fit into a large? it really made me mad and i returned them. ;\

I hate the idea of skinny jeans (so flamboyant, etc.), but sadly they're probably the only jeans that fit me in a semi-flattering way. actually rises are coming UP, please believe! i guess low rises work for me because i have no ass* so they're never really that low on me.
*i still wish i had an ass
i grew one, it is possible my dear. though i still have NO clue how it happened. i'm waiting for all the extra junk that settled in my trunk to decide it made a bad choice and migrate over to my belly.
in terms of highwaisted/low rise jeans, i am adamantly against high-waists for the majority of mankind. it just does not look good on most people. skirts work better for the high waist, but jeans look soooo ridiculous much of the time. at the same time, i hate suuuper low rise jeans--when i can see a skank's pubes peekin out, that shit needs to go.
i like them about 2-3 inches below my bellybutton.

I was sick with envy tonight when i saw this guy wearing a delightful pair of rainboots, and next to me a super trendy gay said "all the rain in the world wouldn't get me to wear those". And I felt like robert smith.
omg i'm soooo excited for today because it's cold and rainy so i can wear my leopard print wellies for the first time in months ;(

When I was about 32 I had lost the baby weight and bought some jeans. They were mom jeans. Another day I was shopping for more of the elastic waisted pants I loved, and realised every other woman that was looking at that rack was like, 60 years old!!!
I freaked out. When I went home I noticed how shitty my taste had become. I was even wearing clothes that I sewed myself. Bad haircut too. I looked like a 50 year old woman. Most of my stuff hid my figure and looked like a tent. Totally frumpy!
I lost weight and started dressing better after that.
