View Full Version : Someone tell me about Jung

Carl Jung.

I've been reading up on him a bit and i find his thoughts and theories fascinating. Is anyone well versed enough to give me some insight as to where to start?

I'm doing some research on the idea of duality and it's relation to the known world, and how that concept relates to singularity. So i've been reading a lot about the concept of narcissism, Ouroboros, the alchemist's opus, and so forth.

I'm especially interested in the psychological ramifications of this; how, in a universe that seems so bilaterally divided, one could reconcile those opposites to a completely solipsistic ideology, and vice versa. Or, to put it in simpler terms, how the number 1 can survive and relate in a world full of 2s. And in doing so, how does that shape 1's identity and psyche?

He seems to have a great deal of writings on this matter, as well as cryptomnesia. So where should i begin?

This is a bit unrelated, but have you read Finnegan's Wake by Joyce?

:O

I didn't understand a single thing you wrote just there, but I did smirk when I read "How number 1 can survive in a world full of number 2's."

I will get there, but I am travelling on the low roads.

Most self-impressed thread ever?

Now it is, thanks.

Your self-esteem reveals it's usual transparency. No one asked you if you liked me, or what you thought of this thread. What questions i did ask you didn't answer, because you can't. Your input in this thread? A halitosic assertion of your vanity. Moreover the question you've posed is rhetorical, so it's unncessary, much like most of your posting. I guess i shouldn't expect much out of an inept bigot such as yourself though.

Next time try bringing something to the table other than your compact mirror. This isn't fucking show and tell.

No, why?

Osceana, I think it would be interesting to talk to you face-to-face - to see if you really speak the same way you type. I mean, most people I know don't generally say things the way you do on here... fair enough though, it was just a thought that occured to me. Clearly you have more time to think out what you're typing than when you speak.

Anyhoo, I know nothing about Jung so hopefully I haven't derailed the thread any further - I was following what you were talking about so if anyone else has insights...

My answer would have to be that you won't get an answer though; we can't accurately know the psychological ramifications because we can't do any proper sort of testing or obtain any proof. My 2 cents.

Blah, blah, blah. I'm being amusingly obnoxious, as per usual. Not posting a glossary so as to show off my cock size to the Interweb. Thanks, though, for giving me the response I wanted. Love you, sweetheart.

What a stock response from an unoriginal, plagiaristic narcissus as yourself. Instead of accepting responsibility for your statement you feign conviction and maintain that you were being facetious. Ted, masturbate somewhere else, this is not you fucking bedroom. These posts are getting old and it's apparent you're the only one deriving amusement out of them. And i find it funny that you should bring up the size of one's cock when there was no mention made of it prior. I guess it's rather obvious now where your attention lies, alpha male.

By the way, a glossary lists the definitions of the terms it references, since you had such a hard time understanding what i wrote enough to give a meaningful response, i fail to see how one would classify it as such.

Plain and simple: quit being a prick.

Thanks, i'm very glad you posted.

I guess you're right though. We can't do proper research without locking infants away in dungeons. But i guess what i meant was, Trickster, do you find the world to be dichotomous? Is that your outlook on the world? I think, for example, that single children and people from large families tend to view the world very differently. So if you grow up as a single child, when everything in this world seems to come in pairs, how does that affect you (that is supposing that you believe your surroundings have a great impact on you), and vice versa?

But then i was reading a recent study and it was saying that people actually have less friends these days and actually feel lonelier than they did ten years ago. It seems like the collective outlook is being reduced. So even in that sense, how does this bilateral environment affect us, when it seems like we're isolating ourselves even more these days?

Jung seems to have written about stuff like this, but i'll admit that maybe i've just wandered into an arcane area of psychology here. Excuse me, heh. I'm glad you understood me though.

I found it interesting. The first sentence is a continuation of the last sentence in the book. You might find it worthwhile. But I can't help you with Jung. Hopefully he's better than Freud tho.

Cutie pie. Or shall I hew to you in manner and say, Egad! Your perfervid riposte! To thusly expatiate but evinces all I dared presuppose! Fie, fie! Return to the complexities of Electra!

The Electra Complex has no bearing on this thread whatsoever. Why you chose to imprudently reference that is beyond me. Right author, wrong concept. Your increasingly antagonistic stance in this forum is not appreciated. And just so we're clear, and so you're not shrieking "egad" later, all forthcoming posts made by you in this thread will be deleted if they're not on-topic. If you have nothing to say about it except some smug, cute remark, shut up. This thread was not a PM to you, and no one asked you to post in it. In fact, i'm now asking you not to. But continue to beat your dead horse and i'll pull clean up duty.

Why is it always the same story with you, Ted?

This revelation dovetails neatly with Freud's theory of sublimation.

Because I now have the Internet at home, and couldn't remember my password for my other user name, so I registered anew. Hiya!

Oh sorry, I was just folding laundry. I just finished 3 loads (and folded 4 - one was from a few days ago). And yes, that's about as exciting as my life is.

You should use the same password for all of your password needs. Easier to remember them, that way. Anyway, hello!

I'm eating fresh tomatoes and cumcumbers sprinkled with dill and drizzled with olive oil, while watching 'The Cooler'. Alas, house arrest is not so bad. As for passwords, I mostly try to heed your advice, but sometimes things get fucked up.

Sounds healthy. House arrest is making you strong, hey! But then, wouldn't you be doing that anyway?

I'm so hungry... I tried to get something delivered at 10:45 (the menu said that they delivered until 11pm), but the guy on the line said that they no longer delivered.

I heart Jung, he's my favorite psychologist, I'd love to talk about him, but I hate typing. So I recommend reading "The Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious" he spends a bit of time bitching about how no one takes him seriously, but it's a really good read.
