If Landis is guilty, then what a dick. Just embarrassing to all Americans and to cycling as well. I don't buy the "higher testosterone" thing. If that were true, then he'd have been testing positive all his life, right? Unless his doctors can really substantiate that, it sounds like bs to me.

We were supposed to have the B sample results yesterday. It hasn't even been tested yet. I really like the guy but this could lead to show that even nice guys are cheats and liars. At least the theories aren't as desperate as Tyler Hamilton's siamese twin. Now Hamilton was guilty for sure, yet continues to protest his innocence.

I bought a book about Marco Psomebody (dead druggy cyclist) for the bf's birthday. Seems like it's got to the stage where there's no point competing unless you're drugged or you've got no chance of winning anything.

I'm buying that on Thursday with my book vouchers. Marco Pantani's story is very tragic. tell the BF that its the amateurs who are the real cyclists. We brothers stick together. Graeme Obree shows that amateurs can be champions. Incidentally I plan on going to see the world premiere of The Flying Scotsman in Edinburgh on the 14th.

I don't understand how anyone could try and get away with these things in this day and age of sports where any extraordinary performance will come under intense scrutiny. That said, I also don't quite understand how taking testosterone would make him perform that much better. If it's against the rules, though, why take the chance?

He tells me that often, why don't you two do the Tour de France next year and win?

I told Jamie we should try. He is more interested in windsurfing and XC skiing though. My tire has a chuffing cut so I can't do any biking. And Summer has gone. It pissed down today. We should have a Tour de Blamo.

Some people just seem to have a psychotic urge to win. More of a need than a want.

A lot of riders are doping for sure but it is unlikely they will get caught. I think it's some of the personal Doctors who are at fault. They should be vetted more often. Testing needs to be increased by a huge amount, regardless of costs.

In any case, the guy who came in second got screwed out of one of the biggest celebrations in sports.

Winning that way can never hold the same joy. It should act as an incentive to return next year to win for real. The thing about Pereiro is that he only finished so high on GC due to stupid tactics by the teams that should've controlled the race.

Wow. What a fucktard. I hate that guy. ( I meant Landis)
So, that makes me wonder if Lance is actually guilty too, how can a person win 7, if all these other people are on drugs.......

Lance is a genetic freak tohugh. And more like a machine.
I heard a rumour from Germany that the dossier with regards to Jan Ullrich, Lance's perennial challenger, showed he spent €35,000 on doping products in one year. This has yet to be confirmed officially of course. It will be sad as Jan is more naturally talented than Lance.
I can't say who is or who isn't more talented. It is really sad tho, I was skeptical even of Lance tho maybe in his case he was just a target. Pantani's story is tragic, altho all I know of his story beyond what was in the media, is what I read on wikipedia. :oh:
I just did a 5 mile (suburban) hills ride and it's about 88F. I'm beat. However, I did wear my new cycling top. It was nice.

Are there any good climbs in Virginia? You need to do 10 times that mileage. Although you do have a job which is understandable.

I bet lance armstrong was a juicer, too.

Lance was definetely doped up. He handpicked Landis and they rode together for 2+ .... it seems Landis didn't quite get the "don't get caught" part of Lance's tutoring.
bottom line is almost all professional athletes (esp. the one's with corporate backing) juice like mad

Well three of Lance's former team-mates (Roberto Heras, Tyler Hamilton and Landis) have fallen foul of the dope tests since they left the Postal/Discovery setup. Either Postal had an elaborate doping ring or these guys left to "fulfil" their potential in whatever way possible.......
Landis is indeed a great physical specimen however. He has great power numbers and a fantastic power to weight ratio.

No idea, but there probably are. And I'm riding backstreets on a fat-tyre mountain bike so that doesn't really help. At this stage just getting some exercise is good.

an unfortunate coincidence, surely :)

I'm more inclined to believe the former than the latter....Postal had the science & had become important enough to garner cover-ups by the corporate etc powers that be...Postal was an american story par excellence: rags to riches, successful photogenic athletes with good old american values (and kicking "french"/freedom butt to boot) and a dashing brave hero to cap it all off :D
When they left - no more cover-ups.....tests suddenly come up possitive
Couple of years ago, I read a Financial Times weekend article that hinted as much ...
Landis is indeed a great physical specimen however. He has great power numbers and a fantastic power to weight ratio.
He def. is .... but fantastic power doth not a good athlete make :D

In cycling there is a mantra regarding power to weight ratio. If you have a figure of 6.7 watts per kilo or more then you are physically able to win a Grand Tour. Landis also has high enough power to excel in Time trials, another key component of stage race victory. I believe that he had a figure of around 7 watts per kilo in February/March 2004, a figure higher than Lancestrong's at the time.
This year Discovery had a poor Tour. OK so they had the Maillot Jaune and a stage win they underachieved compared to the "three-pronged" attack we were expecting, or certainly some journalists prophecised. I suspect we'll never truly know what goes on even if the UCI performs the full audit it is proposing.
