I was recently made aware of an author by the name of Issei Sagawa. He lives in Japan. In the early 80s he was studying English in Paris and became obsessed with a fellow student in his class.

One night he invited her out to dinner and then killed her, had sex with her, and then ate her (in that order).

His father pulled some strings and he was extradited back to Japan where he was released. He had so much pride in what he did that he actually became sensationalized by the media to the point of becoming a national celebrity. And he went on to write several best-selling literary works, one of which being an account of his act. Now he writes for a newspaper there.

I find this really disturbing on many, many levels.

My mind leapt back to the Charlie Sheen SNL Iron Chef sketch, where one of the panelists was listed as a "famous murderer."

"...tastes so good it makes me want to kill someone."

Sort of a switch on Ira Einhorn, who went to Paris when he killed his girlfriend and left her rotting in a trunk.

I think he also is the editor for some fetish magazines or something, maybe even about cannibalism D: i can't remember, though.

I think he also said he didn't like eating boobs b/c they were too fatty : (

There's also another Parisian who, not so long ago, started working in a mortuary and had an obsession with the dead. Then, he started stealing the remains from the dead bodies and keeping them in his house, often eating the parts. He also started fucking dead bodies, too.

Then he raped and killed his friend or boyfriend or something. He went to jail, but now he's out and has a website and he's also kind of a celebrity! He might even host DJ nights!

This is all from memory after reading about him ages ago, let me see if i can find his name...okay, Nico Claux.

edit: okay so he might have murdered 6 other people as well, but i can't be arsed to re-read this longass article on him http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/weird/nico_claux/index.html

editedit: here's his site and his art: http://www.nicolasclaux.com/

i remember Nico having something liek a Livejournal, too, but here's his myspace. Because i saw his journal before, i don't doubt that this myspace is real and that he'd really have one in the first place:

Wow, that is FUCKED UP. I can't believe someone like that could be allowed to go free in any country, after any amount of time... And it's not even like he's protesting his innocence. Surely there's something wrong with the system here?

Does anyone remember that German guy who ate his friend/boyfriend because he wanted him to? Did that guy go to jail or what?

I want him to murder those women that are flirting with him praising his art. They probably live in a safe plastic bubble and think death is cool and arty.

I hereby suggest True Crime as a possible Board of the Month! It would be fantastique.
