Zidane said that Materazzi made repeated insults to his sister and mother, prompting the infamous "Zidane Buster" headbutt attack. He said that he'd rather be punched in the mouth than have to hear those insults.
A French lawyer is asking for an investigation of the attack and whether or not the referee used video footage. If he did, then he's going to ask that the match be nullified and replayed....
What was with this World Cup though? It was such a disgrace in a lot of ways. I was actually reading an article the other day that was recounting how many theatrics and overall yellow-card worthy (in some cases even a red card) card-solicitations there were. It was also of note how many of the games were decided by penalties. Football seems to be just about the only sport where penalty shots can be such a crucial point in the game. Many of the games were decided by penalties. And ordinarily that wouldn't be so bad, but when the officiating is so capricious, it's very, very bad.
Of course i'm mad, maybe even a little envious. But other sports have restructured their scoring and i don't think it's unreasonable to expect FIFA to do the same. Rugby's most recent revision was as recent as '92. I just think deciding a game on a penalty-kick alone (especially in a game where that may be the only goal) is a little crazy. Usually in most other games (conversions, free-throws, etc.) those kinds of shots don't count as much.
In either case, i'd rather the last game not be replayed. That would just be stupid.
(sorry i didn't attach this to the FIFA thread, that thread was too long anyway though....)
