A thread for the greatest football sim ever.
Just finished a season on 6* with barca. Goals for: 125. Goals Against: 15! Won every game in the 30 game season, won the league cup and the champions league too.

PES 5? or PES 4?

I'm fine with PES 4 on 6* but I absolutely cannot master PES 5. I generally lose 1-0 or similar, usually to a headed goal. I can defend fine but I just can't score.

It seems like the thru balls are much harder to time right and in general you have to build up your attacks more. I tend to either a) attack too fast and screw it up b) attack too slow and lose possession when trying to hold it or c) attack just fine and then hit the shot lamely enough to be saved by the goalie; in roughly that order of frequency. I played online a few times and did ok against human opposition.

PES5. It's much more difficult to keep the ball and create changes in the game. Unfortunately, it is quite realistic. Wing play is the way to go, especially cutting inside and delivering short passes into the box. It is more difficult to create anything down the middle.

Shooting - try tapping r2 (or equivalent) straight after getting the power bar up.

I agree it's more realistic than PES4, but it makes it harder to enjoy a quick game.

Ok so wingplay is the way to attack (since down the middle tends to get shut down) but my crosses never lead anywhere and I rarely ever get a header goal (even on corners).

Even on say 2 stars it's much easier to dribble down the wings, cut in and do the short pass like you say but on higher stars my passes don't go right. :\

Just looked up R2 in my manual... the controlled shot. Will give it a go.

It's tougher all round. I can't really suggest an easy strategy to get on goal, even though my average a game is like 4 goals. Oh! Try switchin the play quickly across the field just outside the opponents penalty box. Ie: Start on the left wing, pass to your AMF (or SS) then knock it on to the right winger/midfielder/wingback. That should create some space for one of your midfielders or strikers to run into. It's also a good idea to have a big striker who can bully people around the box and hold the ball up well. In the masterleague there's a young german player called Schwarz who is an absolute beast.

The controlled shot really makes a difference!

I score about 15 a season with various people. All you need to do is get the power bar halfway/justabove halfway and press right or left (depending on the foot of the player and the side of the goal you want). You can also shoot under the wall by tapping the shoot button once very quickly.

PES4 is the only game I play-playing friendlies with my master league team on 6* difficulty while listening to music. Couldnt be bothered buying PES5.

How can I lose 1-0 to Besiktas in the cup final, after being unbeaten all year, and then beat a full-strength Chelsea 5-0 in the first pre-season match?

Inconsistency.

I often nutmeg people by accident, but only with certain players.
