Final Fantasy [Versus] XIII

Okay, so i know that XII hasn't even come out yet, but i've seen some previews for XIII and it looks sooooo fucking good. It might even be better than VII. Apparently there are going to be three seperate versions of XIII though, and the one i am talking about is "Versus". The main character is a young man with dark blue hair who can summon 13 (?) magical swords. It's going to be more action based (probably like X-2, or "The Bouncer"). And i think he might be a prince or a king who is under siege, perhaps even a coup as an entire army comes to assail him. I guess the video shows the army approaching him and he rises from the throne and summons these swords and....i don't know the rest.

All speculatory, i know, but check out the screenshots.

It's so awesome to me that a franchise that takes it's name from their then-crippling impending bankruptcy is making games like this....

So, i was sort of right:

"CHARACTERS:

The protagonist, a mysterious young man with dark blue hair and crimson eyes. The last heir to a dynasty ruling the only remaining city in the world to control crystals, he protects his home from marauders that would conquer the city and take the crystals as their own. He wields a number of different weapons, including swords, spears, and lances, and can even control their movements in the air to form a whirling barrier around himself.


Mysterious soldiers. These unknown warriors wear armor that has a medieval design, but also carry assault rifles resembling modern automatic weapons. They appear to be one of the outside forces attempting to invade the city and steal the crystals, but even that remains unclear."

I forgot to mention that the development team said (at E3) that "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" would end very tragically. The way they made it sound too, it seemed as if it would be even more tragic than VII, which, for a video game, is pretty intense. They actually had to reassure people that it wouldn't make you wish you hadn't played it to begin with. But it's not coming out until 2008 probably. :(

Looks pretty damn good. I haven't gotten into one since FFX, which was great. I did just finish Kingdom Hearts 2 the other day, which for some reason I'm intrigued by.

These games look so sweet ! I can't wait to get my hands on them. lets hope they don't get delayed like 12 has been. can't wait to play that one too. but i think i'm more exited about 13 and versus 13.

13 reminds me of 7 visually and the whole magic and tecnology thing.

the atb system will return and be faster than ever. you won't have to wait to input you commands so expect the fastest battles ever.


They are also trying hard to blur the line between real time graphics and cg.
The creators want every battle you fight to look as good as advent children did.

the only drawback is the $600 price tag on the ps3. If it still costs that much i may have to wait till the price drops before i can even think about actually playing these games.

I believe those are playtime graphics, but I don't believe the camera will be moving around that fast - I just can't image good directional control with camera angles flying all over the place, unless ofcourse you hit a button and then you watch a small sequence of fighting.

the $600 price tag on the ps3

There are actually 2 PS3s. One comes with a smaller hd and doesn't have as many expansion inputs (i think), this model retails for around 500$ (still a little steep, i know). The deluxe version is the 600$ one though. Although i'm going to have to do a little more research around it's release because when i was reading about it the other day, unless i was missing something, it didn't seem like there was a whole lot of differences between the consoles. I think there was actually only one, and it was something so obscure, like it wouldn't play certain kinds of DVDs or something like that (it stated that the hd capacity was the same between the two even), but i don't know if the magazine was wrong or if i just misread.


Okay, tell me, is "Kingdom Hearts" actually good? I'm like a lot of people, i can't get over the fact that it has Disney characters hanging out with my favorite Square characters. Should i ignore that though? I also hate that his weapon is a key.

The differences in the HDs are 20 and 60 gigs, and the difference in price is only a hundred dollars. Might as well kick up an extra C note for 40 extra gigs. It will play those new fangled Blu-Ray DVDs, which at some point will be the standard. Not sure if that justifies the price though.

Kingdom Hearts is pretty good. The grfx and the voice acting (Haley Joel Osmend is the voice of the lead character) are world class, and the gameplay is pretty good too. It's pretty simple. The content is a bit kidish at times, but not as badly as you might think. It's not the greatest rpg you'll ever play, but you will enjoy it. Give it a try man, I think you'd like it.

Why are you so against FF12 it didn't even come out yet! it was looking grim for a while but after reading up on this game it seems to be a very customizable game. No Main charachter, more of an ensemble cast and story , and the battle system can be played the new way(automatic attacks) or the old way(tell each member what to do every battle with commands). You can adjust the battle speed to several different settings also.

And as much as i would like FF 13 on the Wii i don't think it's gonna happen for the pure fact that the Wii is not even close to the power of the 360 or the ps3. It has a chance of being to the 360 more than anything if you ask me. but Square never has not ported anything from ps2 to any other system besides ff11 and that is more of an online game and was ported a few years after it's initial release.

I think FF13 is exclusive to the PS3 which stinks because i don't wanna pay 700 bucks just to play one damn game. But if the Ps3 flops you may see it show up somewhere else down the line.

I have to admit, I've barely played it, but as far as first impressions go, the battle system was disappointing. You can defeat enemies without touching the controller almost. I didn't know about how you can change the system though, I guess I'll try that and see how that fares.

I guess I just like my Final Fantasy games gritty and dirty, with a good mix of technology and fantasy (like VI and VII).

So XIII won't get ported to the Wii? Bah, then I guess I better start saving up now. But it won't be coming out for like another two years though right? Because right now I'm more excited about the GBA port of FFVI more than anything.

Sorry I didn't realize you were already in Japan. It must be cool to get everything first.

Maybee by the time FF13 comes out the PS3 will have already dropped in price. I don't know how many systems Sony has to sell before they actually start to make money off the damn thing but it has to be like 10 million or more. I'm not even going to think about a PS3 until FF 13 comes out. I have plenty of current generation games to catch up on in the meantime.

There is no way i could live without a Wii Though.The virtual console feature is going to blow my mind. Now i can play castlevania 2 and Kid Icarus again ! yay !

I hope Square develops more RPGs for that system. I know Dragon Warrior will be going to the Wii.
