Does anyone else think that Wolverine's backstory is incredibly lame and underwhelming? I stopped following comics after middle-school, but i still have a little thing for them. And after seeing the new X-Men film i remember someone telling me about his story. How he was some rich kid that was in love with some heiress or something like that and he got revenge on his father who was killed.

wikipedia has a good explanation of Wolverine's back-story and basically most everything else you'd want to know about him...
I wasn't into the x-men at all until a couple years ago, now I don't mind but I don't know a whole lot either. Rogue is my favorite character.

If by Rogue you mean Anna Paquin; me, too.

hehe, yeah I have a big lezzie girl-boner for Anna Paquin :D but I also like the character since I got more into reading the comics, teh bf has fuckloads of comics in storage so I appreciate them more now than I did...although some are so old/valuable that I'm not allowed to read them ;) Rogue ended up married to Magneto later in life in the books! kinda freaky considering the movies

Yeah, i remember reading that comic where they got married. X-Men kind of went off the deep end with all the multiple realities and such. DC did the same thing too, so they just ended every comic series and decided to redo all of them to eliminate all the convoluted story arcs. At one point i think there were 10 different Supermen. Ridiculous....
I just think Wolverine's story should be much more simple. I thought it'd be cool if he moved out to Montana with his mom and pops during the gold rush and Sabertooth came and hunted down his mom and dad and killed them with his mutant powers before his eyes. Then maybe Wolverine's powers come out for the first time and he wounds Sabertooth and runs out into the woods, into Canada, where he's captured and enlisted in the Weapon X program.
The story they have now is so bloated and unnecessary. Maybe i've given this too much thought though haha.

I used to read X-Men comics and Wolverine back in the day in the 90's when I was in middle school and 9th grade. I quit reading comics just as the Onslaught storyline was unfolding.
I thought Barry Windsor-Smith did a great job writing and illustrating the Weapon X saga. Larry Hama was an excellent writer as well.

He has a backstory now?! I always thought that was supposed to be his charm, the whole not knowing where he came from crap.
