View Full Version : Guitar effects?
What are some of your favourite effects in your inventory, and what's on your wishlist?
Most of my pedals are pretty cheap but my ZVex Fuzz Factory is my one real extravegance thus far, and was well worth it. It sounds like nothing else, it has a STABILITY knob for crying out loud, that does exactly what it says and makes the pedal unstable. The best thing I've done with it is got it to twiddle through an arpeggio whilst just sustaining one note.
I like my flanger too, but it's the only one I've really listened to so I don't know if it's particularly outstanding.
At the top of my wishlist at the moment is a looper pedal, just because it'd be really useful for playing live with. Ideally I'd want the ZVex lo-fi looper, but I can't really afford one so I'll make do with whatever I can get, though looper pedals in general don't seem to be too cheap so if anyone knows of a decent cheap one let me know.
Behind that is a talkbox, I have no real use for it but I've been listening to Rotten Apple by Alice in Chains today and got giddy.
Then if I can ever afford it, I'd get a ZVex Ooh-Wah, with one of the Cussac tap tempo mods (so more money).
Crazy effects make me hyper.

Yes, but what does that have to do with guitar?
I love a good phaser/flanger. I currently have a George Dennis phaser which has an expression foot pedal to control the level of phaser (wish it controled the speed), but I think it's broken. :( Me sad. Talk simple language.
I also have a Tech21 Wailing Wah pedal, which is, by my ears, the best wah for the money. I'm a bit afraid of that breaking too.

You can probably mod that flanger quite easily to change the speed with the pedal...

I've thought about that, but I'm clueless on electronics, not to mention that the pedal is broken, as far as I can tell.

Wish list.. (this is just a bunch of stuff i want that i havent tried..)
Big Muff Pi (not sure)
Electroharmonix Metal Muff (not sure)
Line 6 DD Modeler
Boss Cromatic Tuner
MXR Phaser (if anyone knows of a better phaser)
Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer
Buddah Wah
Random Volume Pedal
Amp switcher(ABY switch)(Morley)
Big Muffs are indeed wonderful and as pedals go, they're pretty cheap. I'd really have to hear the Metal Muff myself, I like the idea of the more controllable EQ and the top end boost though.
As for phasers, the Red Witch Moon Phaser (found here (http://www.redwitchanalogpedals.com/menu.html)) is one of the most wonderfullest things I've heard, but they're not cheap (in England the standard models go for about £160 compared to £100ish for an MXR Phase 90).
And Iggy, what does the blue box do? I think I saw something you'd done on a website I was looking at yesterday, because it said Iggy and Brad.

The coolest pedal of all time is the one I saw Blake Sennet using on the ACL television program.... the one that reverses the fuckin' sound! Also, volume pedals are what make steel guitar so expressive.
was it a reverse delay or a looper pedal with a reverse function?

Good question. If I had to guess, I'd say the latter.

I was looking at ZVex pedals today when I should have been working, they look pretty awesome.
Question: is the Vexter (or whatever it's called) still as good as the original fuzz factory? I'm thinking about buying one, but I already have three distortion pedals (Big Muff USA, Old Marshall Guv'nor and Digitech Bad Monkey).
Inside, the Vexter is exactly the same as the original, the only difference is the lack of hand painted box. And it's an absolutely awesome pedal, it's nothing like any other distortion.

Sweeeeeeeet.
New pedal!! The big blue thing.
This isn't the set up I shall be using to gig with, it's just the most economical using my practice amp. There's also going to be a Big Muff intricately wired in, the Boss SD-1 is going to be replaced by my amp's overdrive and I have a V-487 wah that I don't use much because I don't like having to buy new batteries.

Only just started playing my guitar again after losing interest for a couple of year. I would still play my acoustic but my electric was packed away.
These are my effects:
Boss Power Driver (makes me sound like I'm playing through a tube amp!)
Big Muff - The grey one (makes me sound like a beast on heat)
JD Cry Baby
Boss 'Purple' Flanger
I want to get a delay pedal. Kinda like one of the recent Boss ones that can reverse your guitar signal. An old analogue one would be pretty nifty, too.
I like the idea of building my own pedal. Can you buy kits that you can put together yourself?

I currently own a Digitech RP350 and it works great for me but I still have a wish list:
Fender Blender
Gig Fx Chopper
Reverse Delay
Ebow
With these three pedals, ebow and the rp350 I doubt I'll need anything else since with some tweaking I should be able to come up with a very wide range of effects...

I currently have three fuzzes and am about to get another when they're in stock, need has nothing to do with it.

Here's what I have:
Jim Dunlop Crybaby 95Q
Electro Harmonix Big Muff
Electro Harmonix Small Clone
Boss Flanger BF-2
Boss Digital Delay DD-6
Boss Turbo Distortion DS-2
Right now, I really want a phaser and an e-bow. I want a wah that doesn't automatically return too. But I also want a bass. And I only have so much money.
Anyone have any good recommendations for a phaser? I was thinking MXR.
I have an MXR Phase 90 clone that I built myself, and it sounds gorgeous, but the problem is the single knob, it really needs a depth knob at the very least.

I just got a Whammy pedal - anyone got any suggestions as to where in my pedal chain it should go?
after chorus/flange, before reverb/delays, either side of a tremolo should work.
I'm just guessing, mind, It depends how it interacts with distortions.

Hmmm... I think I put my effects in a weird order anyway, as I usually put my Crybaby after my distortion.
Currently I have something like this:
'79 Strat or Les Paul Special DC > Boss TU-2 > Big Muff Pi > old style Marshall Guv'nor > Digitech Bad Monkey > Boss PH-3 phaser > Crybaby > Digitech Digiverb Reverb > Line 6 Delay > Marshall Bluesbreaker
But I only use the phaser and reverb in one of my bands, and I just got the delay quite recently too so I'm still experimenting with that. I can't decide whether the have the delay before the reverb or after.
I'd try it after the phaser there.

No depth knob huh? Then maybe I should go for the EH Small Stone. Doesn't that have a depth switch? It's more expensive though.

and as for reverse delay....i really like the boss DD-6!!!
