I added back the change username script it's located in the User CP as an option on the left navigation bar. It's set to let you change your username every 180 days. I may add an option eventually to let you do it soon, but only with a donation to help with finances around here. :-*

Are there/will there be any other advantages for donating members? No ads and popups, for example?

There will be... I have to set-up this up, it should be ready sometime this summer.
