It's a sad day. I reckon they probably realised that their place in the market had basically been usurped by the comic that is the NME

i am informed that The Brand is continuing, including i think the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party as the t4 thing. and the website.

smash hits is (for one more issue) a magazine about that heretical form of artisitic expression, pop music. when i used to visit my dad many years ago, he would buy kerrang for my older brother, and smash hits for me. (i think we know who has the superior music taste in my family. fuck knows what my litle brother got. probably the beano).

it was very funny. they had a buscuit tin and took the piss. but i cannot convey the wonderfulness of it through remembered jokes. i can tell you, though, that i was utterly shocked at learning that peeuhjay of peeuhjay and duncan (as they shall always be known in my heart. also, my boyfriend rapped lets get ready to rhumble! at a kareoke once) had sex on the kitchen floor and it hurt his knees. MOST LIKELY with lisa from deuce.

You know I was *this* close to bringing up PJ and Duncan!! I met them... they came to my school. :-o Like, 10 years ago before they were that famous, and still in Byker Grove.

Watch us wreck the mic... sike.

I was prouder of being on the cover of Smash Hits than anything else. Around the time of There's No Other Way [1991], they took us to Margate for the day and shot us on deckchairs. They didn't know what to do with Dave [Rowntree, drummer], so they gave him a fez. I've still got the picture somewhere. They're very, very happy memories. I'm using a Smash Hits diary this year, in fact.

I know this may seem hard to believe, but I was too old for Smash Hits to find a place for it in my heart. I remember it being full of Kylie and Jason and Stock, Aitken, and Waterman dross.

I remember buying it in the newsagents at Shawlands Cross when I was about 11. I don't think I've even seen a copy for about ten years.

The magazine was cool to me when I was in primary school as it was full of British bands I'd never heard of (and lots of Kylie n Jason) I mean..Curiosity Killed the Cat - who the eff were they? I know one was called Ben McFrenchName Voltaire or something.. but to this day I've never heard their music. Bless Smash Hits.. so educational.
Also, my friend gave me 10 cents for every Matthew Broderick photo I managed to find and cut out for her. I hid them under my bedside lamp in case my mum thought I loved him. I made 50 cents.

I worked at one and got shot in the face 3 times. It's no fun. I had the mask on thank god, but I quit after 3 weeks.

No part time job is worth being shot at by drunk (yes, they were drunk one time) bastards given a gun...
