so this is the big literary scandal of the day. though it seems the james frey thing is getting more publicity.
On the My Own Private Idaho criterion DVD, one of the special features is a conversation between "JT LeRoy" and Jonathon Caouette. It is OBVIOUS that "JT LeRoy" is a woman's voice... no question whatsoever. none.
it makes me think every celebrity friend of JT's was in on the whole thing.
As a side note on the frey and leroy things, it's just american business. the only way you're gonna get books sold today is to do something dramatic.
instead of, you know, actual literary value.
though i must say i rather liked leroy's novels. they were lovely and slightly surreal. only surreal when i thought the author was a twenty year old former hustler. meh.
i do think it's pathetic that laura albert, the creator of jt leroy, is still trying to convince everyone that he does/did exist. pathetic.
