thought it was kind of funy what taylor hawkins from the foo fighters said in a recent article
"I actually argued with our manager about [even including it on the album], because he didn't think it fit and it's one more song Dave could be singing," Hawkins revealed. "It could be an acoustic version of 'Everlong.' You know, they're bean counters. But in the end, it really adds something, and Dave was behind me. He's not a selfish guy. Billy Corgan would [not allow it], but Dave's not a di--."

haha. Just read that on Netphoria. Whatevah, he's either making a (bad) joke or he's just regurgitating the same old shit.

I'd hate to get back on the topic of egotism on a Pumpkins board, but I really don't think that, from a creative point of view it is a bad thing, in fact, I think most good artists are pretentious pricks... I mean, you kind of have to be, nobody writes a song saying "I don't want to write this, I write music out of self sacrifice because, without this guitar solo, children will starve"... no, artistic endeavor is quite overwhelmingly a self-serving behavior.
All I'm say is, I can think up an endless list of amazing people that go up and stage and sing and play instruments, but I can't think of any of them that aren’t doing it because a self-serving need within them to create. So I think the “Egotistical pretentious bastard” label is pretty much applicable to any artist I can think of… that said… Billy Corgan is a jerk.

Yeah, but what Taylor here is trying to say is that Dave Grohl isn't a jerk, and that Billy is. And I can't think of any reason to call Dave Grohl an egotistical jerk, and god knows he has just as much right as Billy to be one.

Well, I think it's a well-proven fact that Dave Grohl is cool as fuck, but it's also very well known that his songwriting mostly ranges from average to occassionally great (or, in the case of "Everlong," brilliant, once), whereas Billy, debatably, had a long streak of brilliance.

I'll agree there... Billy has written much better than music than Dave ever could, but I'd love to hang with Dave.

I do not recall a song on any Foo Fighters album where every single member of the band sang. And I do not recall any Foo Fighterish "Take Me Down" equivalents (and if you wanna count "Blew Away" "The Boy" etc, go ahead). Whether or not you like James's songs, the point remains is that he had the opportunity to release quite a few under the SP label . . . and didn't BILLY release "Go" (supposedly before it was finished and/or w/out James's go ahead)? That seems like a lot of support to me. I don't think Billy discouraged people from contributing, he's just a perfectionist when it comes to his own songs.

Why don't we ask William Goldsmith just how nice of a guy Dave Grohl really is.
