"Conservative leader David Cameron said Mr Blair had been tough neither on crime nor its causes."

He's right enough there, but it's never going to be a vote-winner to overhaul the entire country from the bottom up so that people have an attractive alternative to crime and stuff.

I reckons corporal punishment should be brought back (Im being careful not to confuse it with capital punishment like I did last year, duh). Perhaps a minimum 4 to 5 year jail sentence for using a knife, 6 months inside for being caught with one with intent to use it/previous weapons convictions. Errr.....and some other shit.

It's true that if you make the punishments really hard for crime, it's only criminals it's going to affect.

I agree that the sentencing for aggression/violence is a bit rubbish in this country but I wouldn't be happy about bringing back the birch. You have to balance the stick with the carrot or you just make people angrier and less likely to behave.

Maybe not even that far. Give coppers the right to give these yobbos a clip round the ear 'ole like they used to be able to. Fucking Human Rights fucking bullshit. I hate Brussels. And they should let teachers smack kids on the hands with rulers again. They've got no respect to listen to words or show up for detentions, so I dont see the harm in what a little electric signal to teh brain (pain) is gonna do.

Teachers/coppers need to earn respect though, I had loads of teachers who could hardly be bothered to give the lesson, so if they think it's that boring why should kids bother to pay attention? I've got friends who are teachers/police officers so I know a lot of them do try, but the bad ones should be sacked.
