I saw it this afternoon and I really really liked it.

when i went to see it...75% of the audience were females....thought that was interesting...the curiosity factor...but yes it was a really good film...will be seeing it again

The audience was about 50/50 but it was mainly retired couples, being an afternoon show. I admit that the casting piqued my interest more than if it had starred Alan Alda and Mel Brooks, but I got totally involved in the story and forgot that I think Jake Gyllenhaal is fit as.

It looks awfully sentimental.

I want to see it. And I've wanted to see Memoirs of a Geisha for ages but it never seems to work out. Maybe I'll download it, damnit.

I really wanna see it, but I doubt it will come to the theaters here, cos that's just how it is.

The Right-Wingers here have this conspiracy theory that it's getting so much praise cos the Hollywood liberals are trying to push their "gay-agenda" on everyone in this country.

Heh. I'm a little shocked Gus Van Sant didn't direct it. After all, doesn't it have gays and guns?

I haven't seen this but a few nights ago like every late night talk show host was doing a bunch of Brokeback Mountain jokes and so basically all I know about it is that it has gay guys

Did they eat pudding in it?

:-D

I dont wanna see a film that has gays in it and the title mentions back-breaking! D:

I went to see it again on Saturday and found it better on second viewing. I've seen the trailers on television since and they do make it look "awfully sentimental" but it isn't really. The ageing makeup is a bit shit though, all they did to Jake Gyllenhaal was stick a pair of sideys on him, then a moustache and an unconvincing paunch, and Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway don't age at all. Other than that it's ace. I'm a crap film critic.

I defy you not to nearly cry at the "sleeping standing up like a little horse" bit.

In a soulless digression, it took me a good ten minutes to get over how much Jake Gyllenhaal looks like a live action Woody off Toy Story.

It's quite distracting, it made me get really confused about which film came first.

Dude... That was funny. There's already a Saving Ryan's Privates, so I bet the industry will totally step-to on this one.

It's not witty.

bareback doesnt have anymore homosexual connotations than brokeback, I would say teh latter has more being related to vigorous anal sex

:D

P.S. I love some porn film names. "One Night In Paris" is a good one.

In the gay culture, bareback is totally taboo cuz of how much HIV is out there. And, meh, it wasn't "HAHAHA!!" funny, just "heh" (you know, the one-syllable thing) funny.

so

It is a title just waiting to be pornified. Humpback mountain, Bareback Mounting.... you can do all sorts with it. Meant to be really good though. Roger Ebert liked it I think. Yar.

One time, my friend Spencer texted me and was like "Quick, think of a good porn film name pun." So I thought for a second and wrote back "Night Of The Giving Head." It was my greatest achievement ever and I was so proud, then I found out there was already a film called that. It was like when you're playing the guitar and you come up with a riff you really like and it turns out you've just been working out some other song that you hate that's already out.

I once submitted this composition for music at school, I thought it was really good and then my teacher informed me I'd merely reworked the Horse of the Year Show music. Bah.
You should go see Brokeback Mountain, Squirrel, it's lovely. Go twice though, because you need to get used to Heath Ledger's grunty perf and the Woody from Toy Story/dodgy makeup as well.

what an amazing revelation, he looks just like a plastic Woody doll that came free with my Burger King kid's meal once.

I wish they would give away actual Jake Gyllenhaals. That would be good. He could regrout my bathroom for starters.

I was gonna rent that once from Take Two Video for a friend who was really into Paris Hilton's show.

They must've sent it back to the distributor.

I guess you don't know what bareback means in this context then.

I took my mum to see it on Friday, she hadn't been to the cinema for 24 years (!) and she loved it and thought it was brilliant. She phoned me last night and she says she can't stop thinking about it and having a little cry.

This was the first movie I ever went to see by myself. My roommates are fine with homosexuality so it wasn't that. I just felt like maybe this was something I wanted to watch in relative quiet, so I caught a matinee show. There were some middle-aged women behind me, and a young couple in front. By the end the ladies were crying and all saying "Gosh, I couldn't get my husband to come to this movie no matter WHAT!" (This is southwestern VA, so go figure.)

Anyway, I liked it very much. I liked Gyllenhaal so much in October Sky, but lately he's been kinda boring. So this was a total redeemer - and holy FUCK can Heath Ledger act. At first I thought Jake's character was really whack and that he was overacting, but I realized that it was Jack trying to be this macho d00d. The ending just left me with my chest aching, jeeeeez. I liked the movie because it was so true to life; the characters were so believable (no gay cliches), shit happens to them, and one guy is left with his memories and a badly healed heart.

I gotta say the first sex scene surprised me, but it was pretty perfect. The only thing that bothered me was . . . "Wait, Ennis hasn't had sex with a guy before...how come he knows exactly what to do?" Guess that's instinct ;)
