I do too. I was just saying on a thread a couple of weeks ago that I wondered what he was up to, 'cause Blair was getting hammered and the Tories had no leader, and we didn't hear a peep out of him. But I guess now we know. I feel so bad for him though, 'cause he seems to have it all under control now but since he admitted it the sharks have been circling.

The Liberal Democrats are spending too much time fighting amongst themselves. Don't they remember the Tories in the 90s? I think the MPs should rally around Kennedy. Why single him out if he is an alcoholic. Do half the members of his shadow cabinet think they can return all the MPs Kennedy helped to elect? He is the most successful Lib Dem leader, seat wise, why don't they support him, it's ludicrous.

I'm pretty sure it's just egotism. Everyone wants to be the boss, so they all see this as their chance for personal gain, regardless of the bigger picture.

Alcoholism, drug addiction, and whore-murdering hasn't done TOO much harm to Ted Kennedy's career.

Lost his love of life, too much calvados. Or something.
I LOVE Charles Kennedy, I might run a "save Charlie" campaign.

Poor Charlie. It's a shame it had to come to this. I wonder if he will be in the shadow cabinet of the new leader.

This might be old news by now, but I just read he resigned.
I love Charlie too. All the in-fighting really isn't doing the Lib Dems any good whatsoever though.

its his own fault. he went above the other mps heads when he released the statement, so they're not likely to be happy. he looked like he didn't think that alcoholism was a big deal, like admitting it was all he needed to do. two months without a drink isn't very long.

Alcoholism isn't a big deal. It's not like your need a whole lot of responsibility to be a politician.

Yes.
taken from Wikipedia
On September 4, 1976, near his family's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, police arrested Bush for driving under the influence of alcohol. He pleaded guilty, was fined $150, and had his driver's license suspended for 30 days within Maine [2] [3]. News of the arrest was published five days before the 2000 presidential election. Bush has described his days before his religious conversion in his 40s as his "nomadic" period of "irresponsible youth" and admitted to drinking "too much" in those years. He says he changed to a sober lifestyle shortly after waking up hung-over after his 40th birthday celebration. He attributed the change partly to a 1985 meeting with the Reverend Billy Graham, though by his own admission, he did still drink as recently as July 1986 [4].

He and Dick Cheney have notched up something like 3 or 4 drunk-driving conviction between them over the years. And there are strong rumours that Bush Jr. got busted with cocaine, but the records were cleared when his dad was head of the FBI.

I hope one of them crashes into a queue of censorship advocates, mormons, CIA agents, military personnel and D12.

I sent some ranty email to the Liberal Democrats last night. I think I accused them of being "mean" to Charlie. Damn white wine.

Mark, Blazing Squad split months ago, duh! I was heartbroken
I love Boris Johnson, he should be allowed to live even if they just keep him in a little cage most of the time and only let him out every few months to present Have I Got News for You.

I've just had a generic reply saying they've passed my message on to Charlie's office. I didn't call them mean after all, I called them "heartless and cowardly".

Labour stopped sending me their quarterly magazine. I'm still a blooming member. In Aberdeen we pronounce Sir Menzies as Men-zees. It's just the West coast influence that means everyone calls him Ming-eez. It's like Featherstonehaugh.

I didn't know that, but I get funny looks for saying "John Mingies". Especially since I think they've all turned into WH Smiths now.

Apparently there's not going to be an election until 2009 now, so I doubt they'll be doing anyone any favours for a little while.

Aye everyone from the West says that. It's always been Menzies over here.
