the worst piece of violence you've ever seen in a film has been done, probably more harshly in real life. that's pretty savage aint it?

Here are some memorable bits of violence I can think of off the top of my head:

A Clockwork Orange: Tramp Beating

American History X: "Curbing"

Saving Private Ryan: That scene towards the end where the Jew American tussles with the Nazi who eventually gets the better of him and just sticks him through the heart with a bayonet :O

Gangster No. 1: Kicking a car off it's blocks onto a working mechanics head.

How bout you say some or comment on violence or if not, resent me for having expected more from this thread.

I couldn't believe that, the whole cinema made little noises of uncomprehending upset when that happened.
The rape scene in Mysterious Skin is pretty awful as well, the way he's beating him up with a bottle of shampoo is so sinister and wrong. I definitely react differently to "realistic" violence like in these examples than to something stylised and cartoony. I can't recall if it's particularly violent but I thought the Pianist was pretty disturbing. Fraser, have you seen A Very Long Engagement? The trench scenes are quite nasty.

I just thought of another one, Menace II Society where he's bleeding to death on the sofa that's still got its plastic wrapper on, that's awful. It made me cry. And City of God where that kid gets shot in the foot.

No I dont think I've seen it I will check it out. That "curbing" thing is a fabled Skinhead abuse method. Been around for eons....

Menace II Society makes me laugh. That bit with the tape where he shoots teh store clerk in the head then does some hip-hop bodypopping as he's licking off shots was hilarius. the drive-by was pretty sad though.

I hated those Rats in City Of God. Lil Ze should have shot all of them in teh foot! Pretty cold how he got one of them to choose which one to kill.

there are some bits in Natural Born Killers that are pretty nasty.

Platoon when the guy breaks apart the skull of a Vietnam civilian.

the one scene in House of 1000 Corpses when the country music is playing and the cop and the girl's father are killed.

Rosemary's Baby. 'nuff said.

Citizen X.

Elephant.

Full Metal Jacket.

Blue Velvet, the voyeuristic gas rape scene.

Boys Don't Cry, the rape and murder.

The Nightmare Before Christmas, when the Boogeyman rapes and murders Santa.

and, of I believe the greatest importance, Salò or The 120 Days of Sodom. and i'm talkin' bout the whole film.

I love it when that guy gets his ear sliced off in
Reservoir Dogs!

Oldboy, the self-tongue-chopping scene and the teeth pulling

Requiem for a dream, not really violent but ugh when they show the guy's infected arm from heroin needles. I still hate watching the scene in Pulp Fiction where they stab a needle in Uma Thurman's chest even though I've seen the movie a zillion times.

Another needle one, the broken-off crank needle in the neck in The Salton Sea

All About the Benjamins, when that guy has his arm in traction and they fuck with the screws

i think "the passion" should be listed here as well. 2 hours of torture, beatings, whippings, and lots and lots of bleeding. 4 STARS!!!!
