I have to write two papers. One on why I think God is an infintely powerful, all-knowing, independent, good being and one on why he isn't. I have some ideas, but they all seem to be dead ends.

I suggest you start by checking out Berkeley for the former, and Hume for the latter.

I can say a bit for the latter myself - 1) for not being all-powerful - all powerful is a self-defeating idea. The old 'Can god make a burrito so hot that he can't eat it' thingy.
2) For not being all-knowing - assuming he IS all powerful, he therefore has free will. But if he's all-knowing, how can he have free will if he knows what will happen next?

Those are dumbed down and referenceless but you get the idea.
