View Full Version : Just going on what Guitar Rig sounds like, I really prefer amps alone....

Version 2.0 is out, and I'm downloading the demo right now.

Basically, what the title of this thread means is that for most uses, at least with distortion, I prefer not having the miked cab option, but rather just the straight ahead amp alone. For more subtle sounds, I really think it can go either way depending on the sound you're looking for.

I'm rather surprised because I figured a wall of guitar cabs with different set ups would sound like bliss, but they sound rather distant compared to just using the amp alone.

Of course, this could just be Guitar Rig, but their emulation of different amps & distortions are dead on. Like using my favorite combo, a Fender amp with a Big Muff sounds EXACTLY like my Fender amp & Big Muff. Very impressive stuff.

Anyone else with me on this, or am I crazy?

Stupid demo program wouldn't let me install the 2.0 version cause I've already went past the 30 days on version 1.2. I would think that with such a new version, they wouldn't count that. Nuts to that, I wanted to experiment with it!

My instictual reply is that, yes, you are indeed crazy.:)

But I've never used guitar rig before. However, all the modelers I have ever tested out left me wanting to projectile vomit all over them.

Give me a marshall 4x12 with a giant head on it cranked to 11 and Guitar Rig can suck my dick.

Fuck modelers.

Yeah, but for soundwriting purposes, they can be very powerful. You can mess around with the soud simply by dragging one thing over. If it doesn't fit the song, just take it out. Very valuable in getting things just right, which you can then use on the real equpiment.

I'm pretty drunk,so your post didnt make sense...but a cab with celestian speakers is the king of all cabs.

The crate blue voodoo is one of the nicest stacks out there. I hope to buy one soon from my store....my Crate GXT 100 isnt doing me much good now playing jazz with a band. I need super clean stuff. Sorry I'm rambling.

but yeah...crate man. they make nice stuff. they were the first to put digital effects on both solid state and tube amps.

Gonna have to disagree with you, again. Mesa Boogie and Diezel both make better sounding cabs than Crate, hell, give me any Marshall 4x12 and it'll put your nicest Crate stack to shame. What is it with you and Crate? do you have an endorsment deal or something?

The only other thing I'll say is that I don't see very many bands touring with Crate amps and cabs, and there is a perfectly good reason for it (they cabs/amps are not that great).
