... but i don't know the best place to start. i went into the cd store yesterday with a song name hoping to buy the cd with that song on it ("something vague") but it occured to me that i have no idea what cd it was on... and to add to my confusion mr. oberst thinks it a good choice to not put track listings on the back of his cds... so i left empty handed.
anyway, what's the best cd from bright eyes' catalogue to spend my hard-earned $30 on if i'm new to his music?
thanks. :)

I think this is a difficult question because the styles vary so much from album to album. I love them all in their own way, but it is possible you could love one and dislike another based on your musical tastes. I would suggest purchasing 'Fevers and Mirrors' (something Vague is on this one) and 'Lifted....' This should give you pretty good coverage of Bright Eyes. The albums are very different but if you like each of them chances are you'll enjoy all of the other ones as well. Come back and let us know what you think!

Thanks for the advice. :)
I went into Big Star CDs today and picked up a copy of Lifted and I'm Wide Awake it's Morning (becuase it was really cheap for some reason). They didn't have Fevers and Mirrors, unfortunately.
anyway, I've only given them one listen through each but i can already tell that i've stumbled on something special. I'm Wide Awake was pretty easy to listen to and the songs were nice and catchy, whereas Lifted seems a lot denser(?) and i have a feeling that it will take a few listens to fully appreciate it. Both seem like great albums though.

If you can get hold of the Saddle Creek 50 cd that's got Something Vague on it and a version of one foot in front of the other. And the Faint! I love the Faint.
