Tonight I was having a drink in a rather rough local pub with a friend, when "Hazard" by stumpy horror Richard Marx was played on the jukebox.
I just wondered if anyone else would go for my theory that this is an attempt by Marx to emulate/pay homage to Bruce Springsteen? My friend didn't, in fact my reward for sharing this exciting hypothesis was "fucking mentalist".
I think I might be right though...the "Mary"s, the "river"s and most of all, the choice of Nebraska as location, plus the general feel of the narrative indicate to me that he was trying to do a Bruce.
Where else could I posit this theory? A Richard Marx discussion board? So don't get c*nty.

Its all very incestous 80's-ified. I just want to ask one question first. Why would Nebraska have anything to do with Springsteen, considering he is (famously) from New Jersey a zillion miles away?

Aha! Now I follow.
Hmm, its a very odd song. Kinda sounds like old Marxie-mullet has some skeletons in his closet. Shall we be kind and say it might be Springsteen inspired?

There is an entire website devoted to this song, I've just discovered. Also RM is not Canadian, it would seem. I was sure he was. pah.

Hazard takes me straight back to the halcyon days of 91 when all I had to worry about was homework and how long it was going to take me to save up for a Joy Division tape.

Aww yes, 91! The year grunge broke, (well not really until Nov).
I know its rude to ask, but then what I lack in manners, I make up for in charm - how old are you?
