I'm just afraid to check the thread on sweetaddy.:-o I don't want to hear people bash on Conor for something that would deserve respect and affection from anyone no matter who was doing it. Unless it becomes some kind of Madonna covering American Pie thing which I doubt it will. :-D I mean that it's obviously done out of love, so I don't want to hear sneers and jeers.
The version of The Biggest Lie I've heard was technically very lacking, but the spirit was there and it was really moving.

I'll just put this here to, since it's somewhat on topic :)

This is from the british music publication "It Comes With A Smile":

ICWAS: Reading the Elliott Smith book and sensing these unseen forces directing him from place to place, city to city, it almost seemed as though it was L.A. that killed him. All of his friends disappeared and they couldn't reach him. Or with Dylan taking himself out of the picture, when people demanded he be the spokesperson for a generation. A similar situation could impose itself on you.

Conor: I was just so... stuff with Elliott was... I mean i didn't know him that well, I just met him a couple of times. But it was so horrible, not only from... I mean i love the dude, his music is so important to me, but just in the sense of what you're talking about. The idea that if you're too gentle of a person, this world will just crush you. I think he lived in my neighborhood in New York. Obviousley i didn't live there when he did but, in Tompkins Square Park this year, on his anniversary, there was his picture and all these flowers and stuff, so i guess that was his old stomping ground. It bummed me out all over again. He was just so gentle and sweet and, i think, ill-prepared for everything that happened to him. With Dylan, he seemed to somehow navigate everything.

I think the cover version most people have heard, is the one from the memorial show a few days (couple weeks?) after Elliott's passing. Most of the artists performing only had a day or two, or less, to learn Elliott's songs. Maybe this version is more recent, and Conor will have had a chance to work things out a little :)

I didn't think Conor played that show, I remember distinctly the SC website saying that he wasn't going to be able to.
