chocolate taste good and i like starbursts, but really it isn't worth the effort some people at my school go through just to get a couple peices
at my school's "pep-rally", the clubs did thier thing, then the homecomming people, but then the chearleadrs came out and did their routine and as they ended they started throwing candy around and the whole crowd just went crazy...yelling, screaming, hands in the air like scavenjers...all the while, i simply could not grasp why they acted they way they did.
any thoughts?

Starburst are wicked, but I preferred "Opal Fruits" the old name. That must not have been politically correct.

"Starburst" is kewler-sounding.
I hear "Opal Fruits", and I think of those bulk-gel thingies.

Back in the day though, the flavours would have been more exotic to people, so I think Opal Fruits was more fitting! Plus I think Starburst is a bit Yankee, which is never good :)
Allison: I love that song! "Celebrate good times C'mon! It's a celebration! Doop doop doop doop doobie doop doooob!"

Man, they've been Starburst my whole life.
Hehe... wikipedia has a little article on them...
Starburst is the brand name of a chewy, fruit-flavored candy manufactured by Mars, Incorporated. Starburst was known as Opal Fruits in the UK and Ireland until 1998.
Several variants of the candy exist, such as Starburst jellybeans, lollipops, candy canes, and lip gloss (the latter in a partnership with Lip Smackers). The four common ("original") flavors are strawberry, lemon, orange, and cherry. (In Europe, cherry is not one of the "original" flavours. Lime took its place until 2002 when blackcurrant replaced it.) However, there are many other flavors in various configurations (tropical, etc.), including kiwi/banana, plum/passion fruit, raspberry, strawberry-banana, mango, melon, tropical punch, green apple, blue raspberry, watermelon, mixed berries & creme, peaches & creme, orange creme, and strawberry & creme.
In 2001, Mars allowed the people to vote whether to replace the lemon flavor with green apple in the original packaging. Lemon won by a large margin. Starburst is sometimes marketed alongside Skittles, another chewy fruit candy, in a sort of partnership. Starburst's current slogan is "Isn't Life Juicy?".
Some people enjoy making "Starburst chains" from the wrappers.

Whoa, I didn't realize that... Europe has no CHERRY?! Holy shit, that's my favorite flavor!! And then there's the strawberry that is almost as good, but cherry is total #1. If I have a pack of Starburst and someone tries to steal my cherry ones, they get injured. (But I give away my orange ones a lot. I hate that fake orange stuff.)
Lately, I've really been getting into Now&Laters. Grape Now& Laters....

I still say Opal Fruits. And I wish they had just kept both the green and yellow ones and just left the purple out. I blame John Prescott.

I remember Snickers used to be called Marathon as well.
It seems like the old names make more sense:
Opal Fruits - cos they're fruity, right? and... umm, Opal-y. (How would this not be PC? I don't think I see the connection.)
Starburst - how is a star involved in any way? and they don't burst either.
Marathon bar - eat one, and you'll have enough energy to run a marathon!
Snickers bar - eat one, and you'll giggle like a girl... huh?

I love cherry flavour, but no, we don't get em. And Skittles rock! They are definitely better than starburst, but starburst are still kewl like bums.
