View Full Version : Thoughts on Glass and the Ghost children

The song is my favourite SP song, funny that it is on Machina. It's use of mellotron, the drumming, awesome bassline, the opening guitar riff, the almost 70'ish dramatic prog lyrics makes it almost to hot to handle. I've always thought it was Corgan handling that crazed whammy guitar intro, but now I am in doubt. Iha is absolutely capable of creating and playing something like that. Anyone know who's in charge of it?
If bully puts together a new album I hope he stops try try trying and makes a decent dynamic and progressive rock album with less vocals and more guitar. He is a damned good guitar player too with a uniqe style a shame that he's lost his way.

did you just refer to a song as "too hot to handle"?

Meh, I think it's one of the worst songs they've done. Machina would have been so much better had they removed this, Heavy Metal Machine, and Crying Tree Of Mercury.
Glass & the Ghost children just really doesn't go anywhere for awhile, and when it does, you wish it wouldn't. Billy's lyrics are too abstract here. "And she counted the spiders as they crawled up inside her". No thanks. I'm sure it goes along nicely with the whole album theme, but too bad I didn't go along with it, I just liked the music.

I think it's one of the better songs off of Machina.
I certainly feel like I'm on acid whenever I'm listening to it. In fact, it's on one of the cds I burned filled with music to trip out to while smoking marijuana or just having eaten shrooms.

I don't like to argue whether a song is good or not...it's kinda silly. But, I have to say that these lyrics are not very abstract. Actually I think they are some of the more straight-forward lyrics on the album.
If you didn't know...this line is referencing the feeling that one gets when injecting heroin.

great song, abstract, but solid. fantastic lyrics... could have closed the record. yet another forshadow of the impending band breakup. among other things.

nah that's all good.
It can be "one of the better" or "one of the best"
but it can only be "one of the worst" not "one of the worse". COnfused? Good! Teach me how to say suck my balls in Spanish :)
I think this song just about works in general, theres some good melody on there, and I like the BIG sound it has after the spoken part. But lyrics are pretty meanngless.

my mistake. :O
This song is good. I wouldn't call it Prog though, it's more like two songs sandwiched together with some atmosphere in the middle.
It has some prog elements but the development is not as symphonic as i would like for a prog song.
I am however glad that Billy writes songs like this. And i hope that he continues to do so.

yes, for the cocept that it is, it's a great song. Great album imo.
...and Billy hasn't lost his way, this is your opinion, as it is mine. Remember, all things change.

Ah, I didn't know that. I'm not the best at interpreting lyrics.

Hey, hey, I'm new!
I think its a good song, but it does tend to drag on a bit....
In other words, I much prefer "long" songs like X.Y.U

The live interlude by Mike Garson is very cool & Much more dramatic.

i'd have to say it's my favorite song on Machina...and probably in my SP top 5.
sometimes i wish they would have cut out the middle part with the talking and put in a nice instrumental or a good solo. but the start and end more than make up for it.

You have it? Where did it come from. Everywhere I've looked only has the 9/20 show. I love this song though, the interlude and end are awesome. I love the part during the end when the drums come back in. It sounds very dramatic.
As for the beginning solo, I noticed in the last year or so, a ton of the songs had crazy ass slide solos. What was up with that?

James does a lot of e-bowed guitar on the later pumpkins albums.
I really like when the drums come in all distorted during the second part.
