Never read her, but we're getting into Romanticism, so we'll probably read like 20 pages of pride and prejeduce.

I had a friend who read pride and prejudice 3 times over in the time it took me to read up to chapter 10 where I decided that I couldn't take anymore and quite.
why do you like them? all they are is gossip and crappy love stories where the only thing to wonder about is which sister is gonna end up with which guy.
and even that doesn't take up much thought.

Ah she probly has,she is not a bad kid just not a reader but her sort of thing is nearly as sickening as those ppl that learn EVERYTHING about one political topic and relate anything said ever back to it. In my own selfish opinion i'd rather they remain completely ignorant than that!

I used to read a lot. 9th and 10th grade, I always had a book with me and I read it every chance I got. even when I was walking. during that time I finished 2 series of about 7 books each. and then I started reading 1421: The Year China Discovered America.
right before the last chapter of that extremely long book, I lost my ability to concentrate on reading. I never finished that book because by the time I got around to reading the last chapter, I had forgotten too much of the rest of the book.
right now I just read really slow and I havn't been able to finish anything yet.
ronan, if you want to argue that jane austin is anything good. go ahead, I'd love to hear an arguement.

thank you.
with that said, don't ever read "I capture the Castle"
it's the same type of thing except longer and from first person. and the narrator is a 17 year old girl that's so not my personality.

Great book. Sadly, not something anyone can say about Jane Austen.
Wow, old-fashioned chick-lit. The Kathy Lett of her day.

I read somewhere that austins work was pretty risque for her day and people read them much in the same ashamed way they read most romance novels today.
what did you think specificly about 1421? pretty solid? I liked how indepth he really got. I don't think the chinese/indian sex traditions will ever leave my mind :-D
but serious...it seemed so put to gether and solid to me that I really wondered why no one knew this before. and his accusations about columbus and his bro stealing the maps and knowing that america was there...
it was great, cus I hate columbus, but i somehow have a hard time taking it as profound truth.
I'd be very interested in reading a critique or counter to it all.

I fucking hate Jane Austen and if I ever meet her I'll flick her in the forehead and throw her bonnet under a passing gig. If a ten-year-old child finished a story the way she finished Sense and Sensibility they would, quite rightly, get done. I've never read any of her others, it would only be time I'd want back at the end of my life, but I wouldn't be surprised if the last line of Pride and Prejudice isn't "and then Elizabeth woke up and found it was all a dream".
I think Wuthering Heights is a mess too, two words Emily, BLUE PENCIL.

I think the Brontes (all of them, yes) are better than Austen by a country mile.

And to take up the Bronte thing, The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall must have been so shocking people burst into flames or something. And it's a fucking good book.

I still like Wuthering Heights.

I don't hate Wuthering Heights, I just think she needed a good editor. I'd rather listen to the song.

she didnt have crosses for eyes, but she had these tiny little cute ones and a tiny button nose.
Oh god, I have to read Pride and Prejudice for English this year. It is the most boring book I have ever attempted to read. Seriously, I haven;t even finished Volume 1 and we're supposed to be reading Volume III by now.

I was never asked to read Wuthering Heights so I havn't even picked the book up yet. the only semi-romantic novel that I would ever wish to read would be Great Expectations. I've heard a lot about it and i really want to know how it ends, but I have a feeling the writing is somewhat of a bore to get through.

It comes in volumes? It's a normal sized novel.
I did it for English about 10 years ago. I think I've read it about 5 times.
