I love that line, and all of Digital Ash except for Pinata, which is only ok. I don't get why people were like "arg, he's trying to be electronica", when for a start, drum machines + synthesizers don't necesarily equal electronica. Sure it's electronic, but electronica is a different genre of music altogether. And it's not like he's not done similar music before, like I will be Grateful for this Day, Loose Leaves (although that was major unlike most of Digita Ash), and Lover I Don't Have to Love.

I see Digital Ash as the more Bright Eyes album of the last two, you get enveloped in it and it moves and feels alive, whereas when I listen to Wide Awake, it just kind of happens in my ears, you know?

I thought we needed more BE topics, I shall do some more later. Come back please?

I have had that song (Time Code) in my head all day! Great song :)

death
data entry
ant hill law
encoded arc our common cause
drink liquid clocks 'til i see God
crystal display
can't turn it off
shh...shh...shhhh
don't talk
don't talk

anyhoo! Yeah seems alot of people moan about Digital Ash saying it is all technoblahblah but even if it was..which personally i dont think it is..why is that a bad thing? The album sounds great. End of story. Hard to pick a bad song from this album.

Fab: Pinata is the song that really got me into the album. Go play it again. I think maybe it should be put into the tracklist a little earlier on in the album though. But I really do love this song.

"I feel like a pinata once you take a swing at me
If you could just crack the shell open
I think inside you would find something sweet."

:)

I'm tempted to post a parody thread involving the word 'cocks' but I don't think BE peeps is the types what would get it. Well, they'd get it, but they'd think I was a wanker.

:) I've listened to it tons of times, i just hate a lot of the lyrics, like the one you quoted, they sound like corny chat up lines.

Yes to cocks, no to pinata. No thank you.

I should stop pressing things i don't mean to press.
Corny chat up lines, couldn't agree with you more, and if you knew who'd used them and who they'd used them on you'd hate the bloody thing too. But then it's nothing less than they deserve. Ha.

See, that would potentially be fun. I'm all ill. I keep falling asleep and then getting woken up by how much my throat hurts. I'm sure nobody thinks you're a wanker Luke;)

That looks mean. Sorry.

I really liked it at first, now I adore it. I'm not sure if it's ahead of Lifted but there's no point ranking stuff if it's that close. Wide Awake, however, I liked at first, now I can't be bothered with most of it.

I still haven't been able to bother with all of it. I keep trying to listen to it, and halfway through I realise that I'm just not paying attention.

I've tried that kind of stealth approach and all that happens is I decide I really want to listen to The Difference in the Shades or something. I liked it better live but it still wasn't enough. I tried to put it on my ipod today for learning to love purposes but it seems our crappy computer shares my sentiments, it got halfway through We are Nowhere and it's Now and then told me there wasn't enough room on the hard drive. Hmmm. Is that a sign, do you think?

Road to Joy on Wide Awake is nothing compared to how they did it live, same for We Are Nowhere and it's Now. Old Soul Song and Poison Oak are great though.

Yeah, my problem isn't with the songs, it's with the production...the whole record just makes me think about how much I love Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams. I was excited about I'm Wide Awake... more before they came out because it sounded more like the record I wanted to hear, but I loved Digital Ash from the off and I just can't get on with this one. I've given up worrying about it though, it'll either just creep up on me or I'll like the next one.
