I've just ordered a EL CHEAPO fretless Fender Jazz Bass KNOCKOFF for AU$300 so I can go all Jaco n' shit! It's even sunburst, so I plan on taking off the pickguard! I really wanted a fretless 5 string, but the only way I could do it cheaply would be to buy a crap 5 string and defret it -which I don't want to try :darn:

If I were a moneybagz, I'd get this rad G&L!

Oh yeah...I read an article recently that said that Timmy Crommerford (SP?) plays a 4 string that's strung like the lower 4 strings on a 5 string (if that makes sense)...so there's a low B where the E usually is, and the E is where the A usually is ECT.

I'd like to try that!

A lot of people have done it. It's pretty easy to get use to if you don't use your G too much.

mmm... G&L

If you REALLY wanna get Jaco, are you gonna throw some roundwounds on it?

When I saw the pic you posted, I was going to comment that G&Ls are not Fender knock-offs! They do make a lower line called "Tribute", and it's pretty tempting to get one.

There is something so awesome about fretless basses. We're going to need soundclips when you get it Iggy.

aren't most strings roundwound? or is it common to have flatwounds on a fretless?

He also put epoxy on the fingerboard though...to stop the roundwounds scarring the wood. They'd sound nice though! I think using roundwounds and adding a bit of chorus effect brings out the MWAAAAH.

G&Ls are hot basses! Unfortunately, even the Tribute Series start from AU$1700 here!

The Zon Hyperbass is one crazy fretless! It has a 3 octave neck!
