Does it? Who's seen it? I've never read any of the graphic novels about it or anything. I hope it's good.

I thought it was great

It's shot kinda like a comic book. With some excellent visual effects ('negative' blood is one example, youll see what I mean). Brutal characters (mickey rourke steals the show, bruce is also lovable).

I never saw the comic books before, it didnt bother me.

negatives? hmmm....the commentary (I cant think of the actual word I want to use) can be a bit annoying some times...I cant really remember anything else I disliked.

It was entertaining, although it certainly won't blow your mind or anything.

The narrative? And yeah I thought it was okay. Kind of mean spirited though, which is okay too, depending on what sort of mood you're in and stuff.

I thought it was the best film of 2005, personally.

It had everything. Then again, I've always been a soft heart for vintage '40s crime noir.

did it have

lots of angel/whore women in distress, one of the most tired clichés ever?

flesh exploding fillers?

all style no substance?

yes.

so.

it had nothing.

1) for all the damsels in distress, there were more "empowered" women. and to be fair women are lame-o's anyway arent they? theyre bound to be the ones in distress hah hah
2)hmmm I felt the ultra-violence was done pretty tastefully, and within keeping of the story, like I really WANTED to see that Spiderman geezer get his head kicked in.
3) There was substance. But youre right the "stylising" might have been a bit OTT.

quit hating. peace out!

I watched it last night. I must say I liked it. I'm not happy with whoever the casting director was but it did have some really good actors. Mainly, I didn't like the fact that Josh Hartnett and Brittany Murphy were in it because I have immense disdain for both of them. I thought the violence was pretty cool the way it was done. I liked the black and white with the color mixed in and I'm a sucker for 1920's style dialogue. In other words, I wasn't disappointed.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Jessica Alba and whoever the chick was that played the parole officer were smoking hot. Rosario Dawson looked good, too. That is all.

Clive Owen shouldn't do an American accent, either.

I didn't really like it. However, I guess they did a good job on making me really hate that one prostitute that turned them all in or whatever. I wanted to kill her.

I love you like a fat kid loves cake, but I was referring more to comic books, whom I've always had the notion that had all the above that you listed.

It was the one film I could actually permit my brain to turn off while watching it. That's a very difficult thing to ask me to do, even after seeing films like Willard and In Good Company. Yes, I said In Good Company. :/

Then why'd you like this movie? It was almost a copy of a copy of 40s noir. I didn't like the visual effects at all. It looked like it was shot on a cheap soundstage. Remember those old live action Star Wars video games? The one for like Sega CD with actual actors in them that were kind of like FPS. Well, that's what this movie reminded me of. And did EVERY guy have to talk with that voice? I didn't care for any of the characters.

At least Max Payne was intentionally funny.

Looked like a comic book? If you mean stilted, yes.

Take a look at the cinematography of a master like Conrad Hall and you'll see something that looks more like what comics are trying to represent. Filmmakers should treat comics like detaied storyboards.

^ werd

I still haven't seen it.

If you want a good comic book movie

Black Jack

it's anime

it also has cheesy dialogue (but maybe the english dub just doesn't come off as intelligently as the original Japanese)

but the artwork is incredible and they really pay tribute to the manga/comic this story came from

I respect honesty above all things. Like it for that then, but don't go around saying it's got any other merits.
